The Bachelor, Matt Grant, Shocks All by Picking Shayne Dahl Lamas

I think reality shows, in general, edit their shows to make you think you know what's going to happen based on the previews. Then when the finale comes, you're shocked. This season of The Bachelor was no different! Every year I watch The Bachelor, and every year I choose the wrong girl! Of course, this year, my pick wasn't even in the final two. He said good-bye to Amanda just before choosing his final two. Amanda, with her endearing 'meeps' (nervous hiccups) and sweet, sincere smile had my vote. I thought for sure she'd go to the final two with Shayne and he'd pick Amanda. We all know, that didn't happen!

Instead, Matt took Shayne and Chelsea to the finals, even though previously we'd been led to believe Chelsea was more of a friend. As soon as he took Chelsea instead of Amanda, I knew Shayne had won. He and Chelsea never had the chemistry that he and Shayne had shared.

Shayne...Shayne Lamas, whose dad is a famous (although I'd never heard of him) actor. Shayne Lamas who admitted she just wanted to be on TV and whose own father said at dinner with Matt that this was her chance to be the star and be on TV. I personally feel like she blew her chance. Hopefully she really was interested and in love with Matt because if she was just doin' this show to further her acting career, well, good luck with that! The acting side left much to be desired.

Throughout the show it was obvious that Shayne was trying to 'turn it on' for the camera. She was desperately trying to show her dramatic side and acting abilities from her laid back, slow conversation to her almost teary talks with Matt, to the dramatic flare she sometimes added to confrontations. Early in the show she pulled Matt aside and had an overly dramatic conversation with him about how he was dating all of these other women and she couldn't handle it. She then had a laughable scene of her in the bathroom with her huge sunglasses on threatening to leave the show. We all knew she wasn't going to leave! Obviously she was just trying to get the attention of the camera. She repeatedly came to the camera and talked about how she wasn't here just to be on television and that she was here for Matt. To that my response is simply, actions speak louder than words! If you're constantly having to say what your true intentions are then it's pretty clear that you're trying to prove something. In this case, I think she was trying to prove to the world that she was there for Matt when the reality is, we all knew she was there to become a star. It's too bad, really, that her acting skills weren't better on the show. Had she been able to truly produce real tears or even act honestly surprised at the engagement she may have landed some kind of acting contract. As it was, she came across as very fake. When I go to a movie, I like to believe that the actors are indeed the characters in the movie, I don't want to sit there the entire time thinking what a terrible acting job they're doing.

So hopefully it's real and they're honestly in love and going to have a long-lasting marriage. I'm skeptical though...very skeptical. Of the Bachelor's/Bachelorette's out there I know of only one that is working well. Even the couples who seemed like a perfect match don't last when they get past the 6 or 8 weeks on the show. I find it, therefore, hard to believe that a couple who doesn't seem like a perfect match but rather total opposites will even get married.

I've been happily married for almost 11 years now. I love my husband, daughter & Jesus. I'm a stay at home mom, I taught 8th grade and coached varsity tennis for 6 years prior to having our daughter. Really...  View profile
