The Bachelor Season Finale - Jason Proposes to Melissa

Then, Breaks Up with Her in the "After the Final Rose" Show

In what has been billed all season long as the most dramatic rose ceremony ever, single dad, Jason Mesnick, 32 proposed to Melissa, a 25 year old sales representative from Dallas, TX after he broke the heart of Molly, a 24 year old department store buyer from Grand Rapids, MI. Keeping with the traditional Bachelor format, Jason brought both girls home to meet his family in Seattle and spent one last date with each of them before the Final Rose Ceremony. In what supposed to be a shocking twist, Deanna Pappas, who broke his heart last season, showed up at his hotel room. Deanna told him that she would have made a different decision and he needs to think beyond the proposal. As Bachelor fans know, the first woman out of the limo is usually the one that is sent home. Molly emerged from the limo first and Jason told her, "I don't know how I could ever let you go, but I have to." Even as he walked Molly out, she kept telling him what a huge mistake he was making. Then, viewers finally saw the scene that they have been teased with all season long, the one of Jason crying over the balcony.

The second limo pulls up with Melissa inside. Jason gets down on one knee and proposes to Melissa. He tells her that he is the happiest man in the universe and she said she is the happiest woman in the world. In true fairytale form, Ty comes running out to greet them dressed in a little suit and they all jump in the pool with the guys in their suits and Melissa in her gown. All in all, it wasn't a very dramatic rose ceremony.

The "After The Final Rose" show is always shown after the last episode. This is where the real drama starts. Chris Harrison explains that this show is different and there is not a live audience. And, finally, the voice over that has been heard for the past few weeks, "What you are about to witness is so dramatic, so emotional, so difficult we decided out of respect for the parties involved to keep the taping of tonight's show as intimate as possible." Jason sits down with Chris and immediately starts crying and said he made a mistake. The feelings he had for Melissa when he proposed are no longer there and he needed to end their engagement because he is in love with Molly. Melissa joins Jason on stage and he breaks the engagement on live tv. Chris leaves the stage to give them some privacy so they can talk in front of millions of viewers. Melissa was extremely angry and kept referring to herself in the third person. Chris comes back on stage and told her the limo is waiting for her.

Next, Molly joins Chris on the stage. Chris gets her to admit that she still thinks about Jason. Jason then joins Molly on stage and tells her that he just broke his engagement and that he is still in love with Molly and would love to go for coffee or a drink and see what happens. Molly said she is confused and blown away and needs to have a better understanding of what happened at the Final Rose Ceremony. But, she also admitted that she was glad that it turned out this way. Jason said they are following their hearts and he is still falling in love with Molly and it will never stop. Bachelor fans, tune in tomorrow night for Part 2 of "After The Final Rose."
