"The Bachelorette" Bentley Williams Return

Chris Houston

"The Bachelorette" Bentley Williams-is he the ultimate bad boy or a fictional character created by himself or show producers just to antagonize Ashley Hebert? Some of the other guys have offered up some clues to the fact that "The Bachelorette" Bentley isn't as bad as he's being made out to be. In fact, some of the other participants on the show have gone as far to say they think Bentley is a "good guy." This I don't get. If Ashley was fooled by the charm of Bentley, then so too were the fellow suitors. He apparently talks a good game on camera and then waits to slam home his true thoughts until afterward-or so it seems? Or is this Bentley guy being made to look the part of the villain when he's actually not a bad dude at all?

So which is it? Is Bentley the villain or is he being "edited" to be a fictional bad boy? The question has probably popped through the head of every single person who has watched "The Bachelorette" Ashley season.

Questions like "he can't really be this mean, can he?" Or "why would he treat Ashley so bad?" I would like to give Bentley the benefit of the doubt as we've done with guys like Wes. But I don't think there's any way you could edit the words from his mouth if you are producers of the show to misrepresent what he's said already during his on camera interviews. Let's face it! He said he'd rather be"swimming in pee" thanplanning a wedding withAshley Hebert. He's confessed multiple times that he's just not that into her. He's even referenced her body as not being his type-although he openly admitted he wouldn't mind her playing with part of his anatomy. He also says he wished "The Bachelorette" would have been Emily Maynard. But those are just some of the things the guy has warmed America's collective hearts with.

What I don't get is people are starting to come forward and become part of team Bentley. How in the world could anyone take up for a guy who said the things he has? Apparently the show producers edited Bentley to look bad?Seriously? He said "swimming in pee?"

The guy owes one enormous apology to Ashley-I don't care if producers of the show edited some parts or not. The whole "swimming in pee" comment was enough for me to understand the guy just doesn't have a lot of class-if he's not acting the part. I could be wrong-but those just aren't the types of phrases you use if you want to show respect or gain respect from other people. I don't care how many ways an editor can edit a show-that phrase was demeaning and kind of symbolic of the time he has spent on the show.

"The Bachelorette" has never seen a villainlike thisbefore. Maybe Bentley was paid to play the part-something we would never truly know. Maybe Bentley created this villainous guy to become famous. Although what good does it do to be famous if the majority of people think you are a complete jerk? Maybe he's Charlie Sheen-ing it up to prove that he's the ultimate "Team Me" player. If there is one thing that's obvious about "The Bachelorette" Ashley season, it's that Bentley is a big jerk. If he's acting on behalf of the show then he has certainly provided an Emmy worthy performance. I don't think there's any question that what he has done has set a new standard for the term "villain" on "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette" series.

I'm sure the guy could be worse but his off the wall comments have been beyond the normal realm of what we might expect a young single cocky guy to say. It's even past the mark of a young single type A jaded-from- marriagepersonality. At some point, Bentley had to realize the repercussions of what he was saying. Instead of asking, "can he seriously be that mean?"- "The Bachelorette" fans should be asking if Bentley is really that ignorant. He had to know that with words like that from his mouth there will be consequences. Bentley will have to answer a lot of questions and take on a few dirty looks from this point forward. Maybe there are some girls out there who would see such a guy as a challenge and he'll land a few dates. My guess is that he'll get a lot more vinegar than he will honey with his antics this season on the ABC reality show.

He's been so villainous that it almost doesn't seem real. It seems scripted. If producers of the show have gone that far, then give credit to Bentley for playing a superb role. Because like many fans of "The Bachelorette", I despise the return of Bentley tonight on the show. It might provide more drama but I doubt it could ever wipe away the images of what he has said behind closed doors about Ashley. If he's seriously feeling what he's saying, Bentley has some major issues with women and himself.

I'll have to admit that I am intrigued by his character on the show this season. It raises questions for many of us like "is the Bachelorette and the Bachelor" real? Was Wes scripted? Were Jake and his abs meeting off the wall Vienna just a horrible ABC plot? It certainly makes me even questionthe credibility of the show that this Bentley character is so off the charts mean? Can humans really be that mean? Especially when cameras are rolling? I think it's safe to say that most people who are jerks tend to shine when they have the opportunity to talk behind the back of others. Not many have the willingness to do so in front of a camera that will provide instant "hate" material to millions.

So if Bentley is for real, doesn't that make you question his sanity just a bit? Or is he just overly honest and the kind of insert foot in mouth type of guy who just doesn't think at all before he speaks? Maybe he just doesn't care.
Either way, this whole Bentley return to "The Bachelorette" has "stink" written all over it. If it's a horrible ABC plot, then at least they got a buzz about the show going. If Bentley is just who Bentley is-then I wish the guy luck in finding someone who will put up with his odd behavior and never be afraid he isn't bashing them to his friends on a constant basis.
