The Bachelorette DeAnna Pappas Dumps Jesse Csincsak

DeAnna Pappas, the latest star of ABC's The Bachelorette reality series, has broken it off with her fiance Jesse Csincsak. On the finale of last season's The Bachelorette, DeAnna professed that Jesse was the love of her life when she handed him the final rose as her pick for the winning bachelor.

According to Entertainment Tonight, host Chris Harrison got word that The Bachelorette had called it quits with a stunned Jesse, who reportedly was taken by complete surprise by the break up. To add insult to injury, the couple was supposed to issue a joint statement, but DeAnna Pappas leaked the news early, further embarrassing the shocked and saddened Jesse.

This isn't surprising news to me, as I've long questioned the authenticity of reality TV shows like The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. I've never been a fan of The Bachelor, but last year I decided to give The Bachelor: London Calling a chance because of charming, personable British bachelor Matt Grant.

On The Bachelor: London Calling, Matt Grant seemed totally sincere as he looked for an American girl to settle down with (we were told his plans were to marry his chosen bachelorette and return to England). However, Matt Grant chose Hollywood starlet Shayne Lamas as his bachelorette, and while they had a lot of chemistry, she was an unlikely choice to become his proper British wife.

Both Deanna Pappas on The Bachelorette and Matt Grant on The Bachelor: London Calling selected romantic partners that went completely against their usual type. Both DeAnna and Matt remarked that Jesse and Shayne were totally different than the people they usually liked to date. Perhaps the unreal atmosphere of the TV cameras rolling and the artificial environment of TV reality romance caused the two to pick partners that seemed exciting and exotic at the time, but turned out to be totally unsuitable.

It turns out that life away from the cameras is a lot different for these TV couples than it is when they are participating in reality shows like The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. Except for blissfully happy Bachelorette couple Trista and Ryan, no other pair from these reality romance shows has any staying power.

Another factor in The Bachelorette and The Bachelor break ups may be the hunger for fame on the part of the participants. According to The Bachelorette host Chris Harrison, DeAnna Pappas has a desire for fame and celebrity that is at odds with her plans to settle down and have a life with Jesse. There is a theory that she has Hollywood stars in her eyes and this led to her dumping her bachelor Jesse.

As for Matt Grant, he also broke up with his bachelorette Shayne Lamas. I find it interesting that Matt Grant did not return to England and he now lives in Hollywood. Did he move to Hollywood to pursue his own dreams of celebrity? That is unclear, but it sure makes you wonder if The Bachelor or The Bachelorette are motivated by a desire for true love, or do they just crave attention, fame and celebrity. These recent breakups certainly taint The Bachelor series and make the whole Bachelor franchise look less like a fairytale, more like a myth.

The news that The Bachelorette DeAnna Pappas has broken up with her TV finance Jesse is yet another let down for The Bachelor series. In my opinion, their break up is further evidence that you can't find lasting true love on a TV reality show. With the notable exception of Bachelorette Trista and her husband Ryan, The Bachelor series is looking more and more like a launching pad for reality TV celebrities and less like a chance for the bachelor or bachelorette in question to find authentic love.
