The Bachelorette Made a Mistake Letting Go of Pilot Jake Pavelka

Always Our Knight in Shining Armor from The Bachelorette on ABC Network

One night as I was channel surfing, I ran across the first episode of the Bachelorette. As I sat through introductions, all the guys started meshing together. No one seemed to stand apart from the crowd, until Jake introduced himself.

Being a women of moral standards, that looks for a man that will sweep me off my feet, have intelligence, integrity and a great smile, Jake Pavelka from Dallas Texas looked to be the man of the hour. Jillian Harris found an interest in Jake, but referred to him early on as being "too perfect". Jake confessed himself that he had heard these comments in his past. Jake is a commercial pilot who had done some acting in his past, and was simply looking for love, and really hoped Jillian was the woman for him.

As the Bachelorette season continued the presence of a character, named Wes, brought a lot of bad feelings out from the other bachelors. Wes claimed to have a girlfriend and was on the show to further his career. Several of the guys felt hurt that he would pretend to make Jillian think that he wanted to have a future with her, when he was using her for other reasons.

The episode before the hometown dates, Jillian decided it was time to let Jake go. She seemed to be getting cold towards him, and made mention several times to the fact that it seemed as though he had no flaws. She couldn't seem to get past these traits in Jake. She sent him home and Jake was heartbroken. He really had strong feelings for Jillian, and was hurt she didn't feel those same feelings. He was also hurt that Wes was still battling for her heart, when he had only bad intentions.

Jake left the show, but decided he had to confront Wes and flew to Austin. Jake felt so torn and knew that he needed to tell Jillian. Not because he wanted her for himself, but that he wanted her to have a fair chance at love. He told Jillian, and in that moment Jillian almost seemed mad that he would tell her about how Wes had a girlfriend. Jake even came back later when Jillian was confronting Wes and reconfirmed what he had heard. He ended up leaving the two of them in tears. Torn from the show, what it had made him, and really hoped for Jillian's success in her quest.

Jake's strength of character and integrity shown through. I have no idea how Jillian could have said that someone with such strong morals could be "too perfect". The only thing that really makes sense to me is that she didn't have the chemistry with Jake she had with the other guys.

There are too many men and women these days that do not cherish the institution of marriage. Some are not faithful or find addictions to take care of what they are missing in their own relationships. Jake is a knight in shining honor and will find his princess. I would love to see Jake as the next Bachelor, but think he may be "too good" for the role, and frankly I don't really think he needs any help finding true love.

I wonder...now that we have seen the Jake and Vienna fiasco unfold, and Ali find Roberto on her own search, was it really a mistake after all?
