The Bachelorette, May 31, Episode 2, Bachelors Begin the Fight for Ali

The 17 Remaining Bachelors Take Over the Bachelorette Mansion

High drama, tension and breathtaking, whirlwind dates were par the course in the May 31st, Episode 2, of The Bachelorette on ABC. It was time for Bachelorette Ali Fedotowsky to get down to business. "I got a second chance of love, and it starts today," Ali smiled.

She eliminated eight bachelors last week. Tonight she cut three more hopeful bachelors. It's already getting tough, Ali said. "I sent guys home last week, and I didn't even know them. I know these guys now."

It was one dating extravaganza after another in an attempt to help Ali whittle down the bachelor pack. For this episode, Ali had planned two individual dates, which were both good and bad for the chosen bachelor. While he gained valuable alone time with Ali, if she decided not to give him a rose at the end of the individual date, the bachelor would be sent packing immediately.

Ali chose Frank the frenetic screenplay writer/Parisian/retail sales manager as her first individual date. Frank would come away feeling that the two were dating, he would tell Ali later, just prior to the rose ceremony. "I'm here for one reason only: to fall in love with Ali," Frank told the cameras.

The pair walked out of the mansion to an aqua blue classic Cadillac that rivaled the Batmobile in every way but color. The date started out rocky as the car started sputtering on the L.A. freeway. The two would not be deterred. They walked until they could find a cab, then continued on with their date. Ali unlocked a gate that would lead the pair to the legendary Hollywood sign that overlooks the Hollywood Hills. The pair shared their first kiss while sitting between the two "L's".

They capped the night off by enjoying a bottle of champagne while perched atop the hood of the Caddy (now fixed and returned). The scenery was the stuff first-date legends are made of. Ali presented Frank with a rose.

Ali chose Jesse, the, for her second individual date. This one involved a private jet, Ferrari and a private performance by musician Jamie Cullum. Jesse, who told Ali last week that the suit he was wearing was the first suit he'd ever worn, was given a gift of a second suit for the date. Jesse walked away with a rose.

Twelve bachelors were chosen for the group dating, meaning three were left without having no time with Ali this week. The group date was full of shock and awe as Ali had put together a chance for her guys to do some good for charity. The magic number "12" was no accident, as the date revolved around a photo shoot called: The Sexy Guys Calendar. Chris L, Kasey and Roberto were not chosen to go on either the group or individual dates.

The men were clad in all sorts of bathing attire that ranged from standard trunks to a itsy-bitsy Speedo-type get up the good natured weatherman Jonathan donned. Jonathan had to be coaxed from the dressing room, but once he found a child's flotation device to cover his mid section, he played along. He quipped that he was pretty sure his black bathing suit bottoms were really the bottom half of Ali's bathing suit top, a black bikini. It's a good thing he's known for his sense of humor because he had to draw heavily on that to get through the day.

Back at the mansion some of the same old (okay, week-old) grudge matches surfaced with a vengeance. Craig R. told Justin that he liked him, "just not for Ali." Many in the house question Justin's reasons for being on the show, thinking it is more a publicity stunt to promote his entertainment wrestling career.

Craig M., the Canadian with Dr. McDreamy hair on steroids, taunted Jonathan, the weatherman from Houston. Craig launched a verbal assault at various other bachelors for no particular reason. He always returned to his main target, Jonathan, asking if he was given a cushion to sit on to make up for his lack of height. He broke into cackling laughter time and time again, although he was the only one who seemed to enjoy his humor.

Ali took Craig M. aside after Jonathan confided in her that Craig M. was poison in the house. To be fair, Ali had her own misgivings. She confronted Craig M., asking if he liked her at all. For the first time since we have been watching him, the man sputtered, muttered and had little to say. Ali didn't let up: "You say you want to get to know me but you haven't asked me about myself."

Ty was given the first rose for the group date crew. Ty entertained Ali with his song on the beach, and confided his divorce to her during their one-on-one time back at the mansion.
