The Bachelor's Melissa Rycroft to Wed Tye Strickland on December 12
The wedding guest-list will include Bachelor costars Jillian Harris and Naomi Crespo as well as her Dancing With the Stars partner Tony Dovolani.
Former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Melissa Rycroft appeared on Jason Mesnick's season of The Bachelor and received an engagement ring only to be dumped on national television for runner-up Molly Malaney. Since then, Melissa Rycroft made the finals on Dancing With the Stars and landed a summer reporting gig with Good Morning America. She also rekindled her off-again on-again romance with Tye Strickland and they are now engaged.
The announcement of Melissa Rycroft's wedding date comes at an interesting time, as ABC recently announced that Diane Sawyer of Good Morning America will be replacing the retiring Charles Gibson on World News Tonight. Could Melissa Rycroft be seeking a promotion on Good Morning America?
In spite of her unceremonious break-up with Bachelor Jason Mesnick, Melissa Rycroft is much better off, as Molly Malaney is a more suitable match for Jason Mesnick. Given Melissa Rycroft's subsequent successes in both the career and love departments, she is also better off than her costar Jillian Harris. After Jillian Harris became last season's Bachelorette, she turned down appealing suitors such as Kiptyn Locke and Reid Rosenthal in favor of the questionably trustworthy Ed Swiderski. Still, Jillian Harris stands by her decision and we can only wish her well.
The Bachelor franchise has a poor record of long-lasting relationships. Only Trista Rehn and Ryan Sutter have made it down the aisle, as they are happily married with two children. Byron Velvick and Mary Delgado are still living together, though she was previously arrested for punching him in the mouth. Charlie O'Connell and Sarah Brice initially broke up, but have reunited and are still going strong.
In any case, Melissa Rycroft and Tye Strickland seem like a suitable match. According to People Magazine, she describes him as her best friend. Dancing With the Stars partner Tony Dovolani approves, saying that "he's a great home-town boy. He will love her endlessly."
