The Baltimore Museum of Art is a Great Family Entertainment Opportunity
Family Opportunities and Great Food as Well
The Baltimore Museum of Art is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 11 am until 5 pm, on Saturday and Sunday it is open one hour longer until 6 pm. Unfortunately the Baltimore Museum of Art is not available to visitors on Mondays and Tuesdays during the week. The Baltimore Museum of Art has a great selection of art exhibits for the entire family. There are the typical attractions such as paintings and sculptures but there is a lot more that is offered at the art museum as well. Some of the more unique offerings include asian art, pacific islander art, modern art exhibits, and even art featuring textiles for those of you looking for something "crafty and unique".
Admission is free to get into the museum. There are even special family activities on Sundays. These are great to bring your children to so they can view the art exhibits and also enjoy some hands on activities in the Baltimore Museum Of Art. One of the biggest complaints many younger children have are that art museums are boring, but that is not true with the Baltimore Museum Of Art. Some of the activities for the family on Sundays include dressing up, sketching, and singing while at the Baltimore Museum of Art.
Are you looking for a nice meal while you are enjoying your visit? Well you are in luck, Gertrude's is an incredible restaurant, though it does tend to be a bit on the expensive side for a family meal. The food is more along the lines of fine dining than young children might enjoy, even though the Sunday Brunch is a little more friendly oriented. If you would like a romantic meal at a discount though, consider going on Thursday through Sunday evenings if you are a member of the Baltimore Musuem of Art. As a member, Gertrude's will offer you a buy one , get one 1/2 price on your entrees. On Wednesdays you can get any bottle of wine for half price that you choose.
The only disadvantage about the Baltimore Museum of Art is the location. The Johns Hopkins area can be a little dangerous if you travel outside of the main tourist areas, so pay attention to your surroundings. The Inner Harbor is about 3 miles away, and it is not a walk that is recommended, you would do better to drive there, use publich transportation, or catch a cab.
