The Banishment of My Ghost Mother

Daisy May
Ghosts are a part of our everyday life, even when we are not paying attention. Real life ghost stories are not always really scary, and some ghost stories are a bit sad. For that reason most people don't want to sit around a campfire telling real life ghost stories. But sometimes a ghost will make themselves known, like in the case of my birth mother, and scare those that love them unintentionally.

I was only a year old when my birth mother died of mysterious causes. In fact, to this day her death isn't entirely explained. Although she had been sickly for most of her life, her death came as a surprise to all that knew her. More of a surprise was that she didn't rest in peace.

She was a Christian woman that enjoyed many friends and she enjoyed the simple pleasures that life afforded her. My birth mother had been the type of woman that liked to make and sew clothes for her family. Responsibility to family was a concern that she felt deeply despite being only nineteen when she died.

There are many real life ghost tales from people that had seen her after her death. Her sister's little girl saw and received a message from her to give to her sister before the news of her death had traveled. The neighbor lady that my birth mother had always went to visit heard a knock on the door but when she got to the door there was no one there- except for the ghost of my birth mother walking down the dirt country road. However, no ghost tale compares with what the church did to protect me from my dead mother.

Since my grandmother helped to care for me due to my birth mother's physical ill health, she took custody of me on my birth mother's death. Despite the grief she worked very hard at being my mother. At night time she would give me a bath and dress me in clothes that my mother had sewn for me before putting me in my crib.

Unfortunately, that is not where I stayed. Every night I would wake up, climb out of my crib and walk to the refrigerator right around midnight or one o'clock. Once at the refrigerator I would look up and stare at a person that wasn't there. It was described as being in a trance. This frightened my grandmother tremendously and she went to the church for help.

A meeting between my grandmother and the Pentecostal church elders was kept. She told them of what happened at night and how my mom's ghost had been seen by several people. They already knew of how her death had never been explained and was still under police investigation because they believed she had been murdered. The meeting concluded with a Godly plan of action for banishment.

The following day, everyone came together at my grandmother's house with the purpose of protecting me from a dead woman that might just want to keep me with her in death. While I do not know every detail, a large bonfire to burn the clothes that she had made me were lit. I do know that group prayer and blessings were made with a focus being on casting out spirits and Satan.

My mother's ghost was never seen again by anyone, not even me. I don't believe that she would have wanted to kill me. If anything, she didn't want to give up what she had in life or maybe she didn't understand that she was dead.

Personally, I feel cheated by the church because of what they did. Every child wants to have their mother near, even if it is only a ghost. It is disheartening to be left with nothing but a real life ghost story.
