The Barbeque Showdown Continues!

Texas VS California

Kat Mitschke
It seems that the battle between Texas and California on the barbeque front may not be close to a final ruling. I reported on May 14, 2007 that an employee of the Swinging Door, located at 3818 FM359 Richmond, Texas 77469, stated there was a law suit pending against The Swinging Door Texas BBQ located at 11018 Van Owen St., North Hollywood, CA. I have been contacted by the owner of the location in North Hollywood, Michael Stephenson and the manager of the location in Texas, Michaela Filla.

Mike Stephenson was completely unaware of any legal trouble brewing, but reiterated that the name of his North Hollywood restaurant was a tribute to the location in Richmond, Texas. Mike Stephenson stated "As for any law suit "from" Richmond, we have no clue what that would be about, and no reason exists that we are aware of to concern our establishment as we are situated in North Hollywood California".

In the communication from Michaela Filla, manager of the Texas restaurant stated that "I just read your article and the employee you speak of from the Swinging Door spoke with a loose tongue. We are not suing anyone at this time, only seeking legal advice on how to handle this matter properly." While it seems this issue is far from over it could be very possible to see a happy ending for both parties.
