The Basics of Knights of the Crystals on Facebook

Square Enix Makes First Big Hit on Facebook

A new venture for a major video game giant!

This is square enix's first venture into the social gaming site venture. Along with Chocobo's crystal tower the software giant takes a leap head first into the social gaming craze. This should be an example to all the major game producers of how to adapt and grow with the latest advances in gaming technologies rather than forcing the gamers to conform to the standards they are comfortable with.

The Setup

You are a warrior of the crystal. You are a forgotten hero that must rescue the world from destruction and a major bad guy. You must collect collection items, fight through quests, retrieve artifacts, and generally do as you must in all RPG games, WIN!

My Thoughts / Impressions

The intro / load screen is pretty impressive as you would expect from this gaming giant. Although this game feels a lot like another Final Fantasy branch it has a lot of original content. The fights are very reminiscent of the original FF series. The graphics are really elegant. And over all I am impressed with this venture. And the addition of "classes you can find/win from your quests makes this a great game overall.

This game could have been done better though, if they had made it an actual RPG game instead of a point and click game with ENERGY and STAMINA. I would have expected a good top down scrolling game from Square Enix not a run of the mill clicker.

"Knights of the Crystals" reminds me more of a mafia wars style game then an RPG. Once your energy is gone, which happens way too fast, you are through till it regenerates. I understand this makes it so everyone has the same chance to advance, it is just annoying to be forced to wait to play when you are just getting into the storyline. The game progresses nicely once it gets going and becomes addictive fast. Over all I would say this is definitely my pick for game of the month. Square Enix has done what no other major video game studio has done; they have evolved and ventured into the new frontier. Bravo Square Enix, Bravo.
