The Basics of Numerology

Even God has a lucky number. His just happens to be seven. After all, he created the earth and the heavens in 7 days. There are 7 great land masses form the earth, 7 notes on a piano make a perfect scale, and in the Book of Revelations, the number seven is eerily prominent throughout. It's true that man's fixation on numbers has existed since the dawn of time. In fact, our desire to put the world in order - to create order out of chaos -has created an entire belief system based on numbers known as numerology. Simply put, numerology is the relationship between numbers and physical objects and living things. In its' hay day, numerology was considered as pure as mathematics. Even the great thinkers of the time believed in its' ability. Today, however, the scientific community has denounced it as pseudoscience along with astrology and alchemy.

But at the turn of the century, numerology has begun to see a slight resurgence. Unlike their scientific counterparts, many celebrities have begun embracing astrology and numerology in an effort to help them balance their complicated lives. But how does numerology work?

In numerology, every alphabet letter is assigned a number starting with A=1, B=2 etc. You would then add up the sum of the word or words you are trying to solve and then add those numbers together until you are left with a single one digit number. For example: The word GOD would add up to be 26-2+6=8. In numerology, GOD =8. So I guess God's lucky number would really be 8 instead of 7! While there are no set meanings for numbers, many believe that the number 8 means executive power, management, etc.

When you begin to study numerology, you will find that there are 3 main types: the Kabbalah, the Chaldean, and the Pythagorean. Each one will give you a different number because their systems of calculating those numbers are slightly different. Some will calculate a Life Path number; others will calculate a Spiritual number or a Destiny Number based on many different calculations. Each number has its' own meaning because numerology is merely supposed to be a tool for your own psychic ability. Once you begin to learn numerology, you will begin to understand the numbers and what life may be trying to tell you.

Whether we like to admit it or not, we are a society ruled by numbers. Unknowingly, you plan your life according to days, weeks, months and hours. You know when it is time for lunch because the clock tells you it is time, long before your stomach begins to realize it. You plan that trip to the beach in July because the calendar on your wall tells you that it will be HOT in Florida at that time of year. Whether you know it or not, you are already following numerology in a small form. When you begin to study numerology, you realize that patterns and order exist all around you and you can begin to take the guess work out of life. Knowing where you are going is just as important as knowing where you have been. Numerology merely seeks to find order in the future so you can better plan today.
