The Basics to Organizing a Fashion Show

From the book,Guide to Producing Fashion Show, we learn that the following elements are important to us when organizing a fashion show.

Firstly, having learnt that our target audience belongs to a more mature crowd, there is no need for our fashion show to include much entertainment. Instead, more details of our merchandise should be provided which includes the price of the design, the type of fabric used, the uniqueness of the merchandise, etc.

Secondly, the type of music used must be chosen carefully as it affects the mood of the audience indirectly and affects the pace of the show as it determines the pace of the models. If there are a lot of outfits, the music should have a fast beat as models walk faster to fill the show time. In addition, we found out that loud music should be avoided as it may a nuisance to the audience.

Thirdly, it is not advisable to hold our fashion show at a hotel since the number of people attending may be restricted by the size of the ballroom used. Furthermore, outside caterers may not be allowed, which can help reduce the cost. Thus, it seems wiser to hold our event at an open space where the above mentioned limitations are not present.

The book also suggests that the duration of the event should not exceed 1½ hrs. This is to ensure that the attention and interest of the audience are captured throughout the whole fashion show.

Lastly, we realised that it is of utmost importance to create a buzz to ensure the success of our event. This can be achieved through publicity and advertising. In order to publicise our event, we can look for companies to help print our leaflets and posters at a discounted price or for free if possible. After which, they can be distributed to the public. For advertising, editors of the different newspapers should be approached. We can also create a website to inform more people of our event.
