The "Batman" Will Have to Find a New Crime-Solving Partner

Valerie Ferrari
A Northeast Philadelphia man accused of stalking Law & Order: CI star, Kathryn Erbe, is awaiting extradition to New York, after being denied a lower bail. On April 7, 2010, the day after the Law & Order episode where Detective Robert Goren gets fired and Detective Alexandra Eames quits, an attorney for Charles Nagle appeared before a Philadelphia judge to ask for a bail reduction.

While Robert F. Datner argued that his client posed no threat to anyone, Assistant D.A. Andre B. Wellbrock opposed the application. Datner told the court that Nagle home schools his two preteen daughters and that Nagle's wife was present in the home. Datner was asking for the bail to be lowered to $25,000. Wellbrock told the court that there was proof the defendant went to New York to stalk Kathryn Erbe, and he also said that the defendant "believes he may be Batman, so there may also be mental-health issues."

The New York Post reported on April 2nd that the alleged stalker was so obsessed with Batman that he named his daughters Batgirl and Harley Quinn (the Joker's girlfriend). Nagle has a record dating back to 1996 when he pleaded guilty to corrupting a minor, false imprisonment, unlawful restraint and indecent assault, and is still on 20 years probation for that offense. The judge indicated he would reconsider bail if Nagle's attorney could get a detainer in the 1996 case lifted, and set the case down for an extradition hearing on May 13.

Charles Nagle took one of his daughters to the Law & Order set in the Bronx and was able to get a photo taken with Ms. Erbe (Detective Eames). Apparently, he had been writing letters that the crime show star found disturbing even before the photo was taken, and she later was alarmed to see the picture on Nagle's Facebook. Nagle cropped out his daughter and only showed himself with his arm around Kathryn Erbe.

If Mr. Nagle really believes he is Batman, maybe his aim was to recruit Kathryn Erbe as a crime fighting partner. If it was, he'll have to forget about it because the actress has left Law & Order: CI. In the April 6 episode of "Loyalty (Part 2)," Detective Eames was told to fire her partner, Goren. After tearfully doing so, Eames took her shield off and took out her gun. She put them on a desk and made a phone call. She said that she wouldn't be taking the exam to qualify her to replace her slain boss, Captain Ross.

It does need to be made clear that Northeast Philadelphia is recognized as an actual cause of mental illness by the American Psychiatric Association.

I think it is even more disgusting that he used his daughter to get the photo. Imagine having a father like that! Ugh.

Indecent assault, unlawful restraint, corrupting a minor. Sheesh, if this guy thinks he is Batman, that might be a good thing, being the lesser of all evils. What kind of family life could there be with this timebomb of craziness ticking? Maybe it's time for his wife to wise up and the kids to go to public school.

I've never watched a Law and Order show all the way show. That being said, this was a very interesting article. Nice job.
