For those who prefer to stick with a natural remedy they can try at home here are just a few options to consider. The first involves using 1 tsp. of camphor to 1 tsp. of a sandalwood paste. You would take the paste and apply it directly to the area affected by Eczema.
Another excellent choice for treating Eczema involves using witch hazel that has been applied to a plain cotton ball. This has long been used for certain skin conditions and is considered an excellent choice for those suffering from Eczema.
Lastly one should consider looking into purchasing some herbal soap that has been specifically made for treating Eczema. These soaps can be found online as well as in most stores that carry all natural, herbal products. All of these home remedies have been shown to be effective in the battle against Eczema and many are fairly inexpensive.
If you do not mind using over the counter products there are also many excellent choices to choose from. It is important to note that most over the counter products are usually only effective for those who suffer from a mild form of Eczema. There are many different types of lotions and creams that have shown to bring relief to those suffering with Eczema. Some excellent choices include Calamine Lotion, Cortisone 10 as well as special products made by companies such as Eucerin and Aveeno. It is important to always follow the instructions on the package and if you are looking for treatments for infants or toddlers with Eczema to only use products that are specifically made for their specific age group.
As for prescription medicines for Eczema Elidel cream and Protopic ointment are the two most commonly used medicines for treating Eczema. These are usually only given in extreme cases though when all other remedies have failed. Generally doctors will prescribe a steroid cream first to treat the Eczema and then if this does not prove to be effective they might prescribe the Elidel or Protopic. These medicines do have some risks involved so it is important for patients to really look into these medicines to determine if they are right for them.
