The Battle for Georgia, a Battle at the Nation's Crossroads

The State of Georgia 2010 Governor's Race is a choice at the proverbial crossroads, not just for the State but the union. The choice is between the right and left, conservative and liberal, small government and big government, but most of all it comes down to whether or not the federal government is to rule the states or are the states going to stand up for their legitimate rights of autonomy. At a time that the federal government is in all out assault against the states of the union and the wishes of the American people. These next four years are going to be the most critical not just for Georgia, but every state in the union.

The Democrat Barnes isn't new to the people of Georgia though he seems to hope that we have forgotten that it was during his tenure that Georgians had to surrender their flag with the stars and bars - the symbol of Georgia's, and the south's independence. His political record shows no backbone for defending state's rights against the intrusion of the central government. He is up to his spectacles in the 'ol democratic diet of filling his cheeks with the loins of unions, especially the teachers union who recently endorsed him simply due to his opposition to school vouchers. But, why do anything more than what he did during his previous term but to let Georgia languish near the bottom in national academic rankings and in mediocrity? As for the Republican choice, Nathan Deal has been successful in the private sector, creating jobs, has a record fighting government waste, Obamacare, and has a view that people keeping more of what they earn is a win-win - the people have more money to save, invest, and spend, while the government's coffers swell with revenue. What a brilliant and novel concept. Though there are some who want to make his ethics issue an issue, lets be honest, if we were truly serious about character in our political leaders we surely would not have had the past three U.S presidents, particularly the current one holding down the seat. Not to mention the current Congress.

With the federal government's further detachment from the American people, as it bends to its ankles more to foreign interest there will be some very serious issues that will have to be dealt with by each state that may not be in concert with the position of the central government. And for that, a strong and independent-minded chief executive will be most needed. Just as the state of Arizona, and many others, have to deal with the crippling cost of illegal immigration in spite of the agenda of the federal government, Georgia too will have to resolve that issue and other such issues that have a negative impact on the standard and quality of life for it's citizens such as, the vastly under-achieving public educational system, the declining high-skilled employment force, and employment in general, and it's true financial solvency. The next Governor has to plan how to make Georgia the ultimate destination for businesses from not just across the nation, but the world via people and business friendly tax system. Ronald Reagan may have said it best regarding government when he said, "Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.." We need a Head of State that understands that the government is meant to be the supporting element in our dynamic American society, not the lead. Georgia needs a Head of State with conviction to do what is in the very best interest of the people of his state and that of the District of Columbia.
