Which One Will You Buy?

Ariana R. Cherry-Shearer
For avid readers who want less shelf space or just don't have room to place all of their favorite books, then owning an eBook reader could be a bookworm's dream. Some of the top eBook readers are the Nook (from Barnes and Noble) and the Kindle (from Amazon). Both eBook readers have been top purchases in their industry, but what are some of the specifications that might encourage you to buy one or the other? ....

The Nook (available from Barnes and Nobles) has over one million titles for a reader to choose from. Some of these books are titles from Oprah's book club and books by top authors such as Dean Koontz, Nicholas Sparks, Bill O'Riley and even from past presidents such as Jimmy Carter. Most of the books you can purchase are $9.99 or less. "Money Magazine" has chosen it as one of the top picks for eReaders. Its weight and size is about the same of a typical paperback book. There are two different versions of the Nook that you can purchase: The Nook Wifi for $149 or the Nook 3G + Wifi for $199. Some of the useful features and tools that the Nook offers is free Wifi to any AT&T hotspot, you can read books free in stores and even play fun games like chess and Sudoku. Also, the Nook stays updated with new applications that you can download and you can also surf the Internet or check your email too. If you are reading a book and don't know the meaning of a word, you can simply look it up on the available dictionary. And for those bookworms who can't wait to get their hands on a new book from their favorite authors, you also have the option to per-order upcoming eBooks.

Aside from the Nook is another popular eBook reader, the Kindle, available from Amazon. It's version with 3G+Wifi is $189 (making it $10 cheaper than the Nook version). "PC Magazine," is calling it the best eBook reader on the market while "Wired" says its battery life is long enough for a space shuttle mission. Some features of the Kindle include no glare which makes it a perfect reading companion while you are outdoors, each battery charge lasts one month, its storage capacity can hold up to 3,500 books and the ability to download books-anywhere at anytime since you have free 3G wireless connection without any monthly payments. Its design is also smaller, sleeker, allows you to "turn the pages" faster giving you a seamless reading experience. And while you have the ability to download books, you can also browse the Internet on the new experimental Web-kit-based Browser.

So with these terms in mind, based on price, designs, styles and features, both of these eBook readers are very appealing to the eye. If you are looking for a better affordable price, then the Kindle could be your way to choose. For those who enjoy a quick break with mini-games, then the Nook could be perfect for simple reading breaks in between chapters. With all of the exciting and useful tools and features, both of the books would be great to own for any bookworm. Only the best readers will know what types of specifications will work best for them.
