"God Calling" Message Essay for Septermber 1, 2010

Today's God Calling message is about the finality of eternity. It encourages us to stay focused on that and to trust in it. The message encourages us to trust that God's promises are just as final. They are unchangeable because He is unchangeable.

When we begin to understand the finality of eternity, we can understand our unchangeable God, His unchangeable love, and our unchangeable destiny in Him-as long as we remain in Him. He's promised to never leave us or forsake us. He's promised that we'll live with Him forever in eternity. And when Jesus said, "it is finished", as far as our destiny is concerned, it really is finished. It's a done deal!

In the light of eternity, words like always, forever and never are profoundly changed. God's "always" and "forever" are not the same as ours. His never is too. Understanding that can drastically change the way we see God. We no longer need to fear His rejection when we mess up. That makes it so much easier to confess our sins. Not only that, but it assures us that we have no reason to be afraid that God won't love us just as we are. You don't have to pretend to someone you're not because he loves you for who you are-just as you are. God created us and He knows us better than we know ourselves. There's absolutely nothing that you can tell Him or show Him about yourself that's going to surprise Him. Even the mess you are when you backslide or relapse; or when you lose it. Even when you try and get it wrong, He loves you. He always has and always will.

This message encourages us to set our sights on the things that are of the Spirit-of the Kingdom-things above this earthly life. Jesus told us to lay up treasures for ourselves in Heaven for our hearts are where our treasure is. Right after He said that, He talked about what we see inside of ourselves; how we see ourselves and the world around us. He also said that the Kingdom of Heaven is within us. That means that those things above-or things of the Spirit-are within. He is in us and we are in Him. The aspects of God are within us. When we apply those promises of God and those aspects of God to ourselves, it changes the way we view ourselves, others, and the world around us. It changes the way we view the future. We no longer have to fear it because we know that it belongs to us. In fact, it looks brighter than ever. Jesus said to be of good cheer because He's overcome the world. We are more than conquerors in Him because of that.

When we grasp the finality of how unchangeable He is and what we are and have in Him, we can begin to see ourselves through His eyes. And, oh what a beautiful sight to behold! Today put on your "Son glasses" and have another look at yourself. It will make you smile!
