The Beast

Elijah Frank
The beast broke from the dark
You stayed stone still stark
As the beast came upon you
You stood there fast and true

It charged, yet you had no fear
Your facial expression was clear
As I watched you standing there
Death upon you, but you didn't care

It towered over you, filled with rage
You didn't flee, you didn't engage
You just stood firm your ground
As it let loose a deafening sound

It ripped through your flesh whole
Then tore right through your soul
I watched it tear you limb from limb
As I stared stone faced and grim

And your broken body fell
Your soul sent to depths of hell
And all was over, all was still
The beast and your body on the hill

And I did nothing all the while
Only watch the beast dark and vile
I couldn't move to give you aid
Couldn't cry out or draw my blade

But why, why didn't you fight?
I could see that you had no fright
Why did you just let it kill you?
Why did you let it tear you through?

Did you truly wish so much to die?
If so, I surely must inquire why
For your death served no gain
The beast continued on wild and insane

It killed everyone, destroyed the town
Not left but blood red and ashes brown
But no one else's soul did the beast get
For it can only claim that if it is let

I must conclude it was easiest for you
To let the beast tear you through
Rather than fight a battle you couldn't win
But I envy not your soul, torn apart from within
