The History Of Butchart Gardens

The gardens were home to the Butchart Family. Jennie Butchart began the magnificent gardens in 1904. She established several gardens in the style of the grand estates for the time period and turned an abandoned limestone quarry into an astounding Sunken Garden. Through generations of the Butchart family, The Gardens has retained much of its original design and the Victorian tradition of seasonally changing floral displays still remains. The Butchart Gardens remains a family business to this day.
