The Beautiful People

Hollywood's Grip on America

Marshetta Davis
In a dream, I would like to believe that I am the prettiest woman in the U.S.A or maybe even the world. Surprisingly, I am not. Yes this is a shocker. I am not the best looking human on earth and sadly neither are you. In fact, it is not possible to be the best looking human nor the best looking anything for that matter. This is due to the fact that we all have been designed to have different tastes and preferences. We like different things because we are uniquely different. Even though we all can accept the fact that we are all different, some of us many of us continue to put ourselves down for this. We continue to compare ourselves to others primarily those Hollywood "gods and goddesses".

Beyonce, Angelina Jolie, and Megan Fox are just about on every most beautiful woman's list while Hugh Jackman, Rob Pattison, and Johnny Depp are usually featured on the guys list. All of these celebrities are great. So why do we want to be them? Okay the fame, the glamor, the money, and "did I mention the money"? These are entertainers have a responsibility to entertain us. We don't even know if these people are good people and we don't care because they are beautiful. Is beauty everything? Who's to say what is beautiful and what's not. "Oh I forgot, our magazines and the TV"decide for us what is beautiful.

I feel that beauty resides on the inside as well as the outside of a person. Cant we just admire our own beauty and continue to love the "Gods and Goddesses" of Hollywood at the same time? This world is so big and filled with so many different people. Celebrities, beauty queens, and heroes that we will never know. It's a shame we put so much emphasis on wishing to become someone else instead of loving ourselves. We are an image driven culture. If its "hot" then it's a good thing. We need to learn to appreciate the great things about ourselves. Can you think of three wonderful things about you? Ask someone close to you to list some wonderful things about you. Now what matters first of course is what you think of you; then what others think of you. Try to be a good person. Give yourself a makeover, starting with how you view your inner self . You are now on your way. Calm down and love you for you. Skinny, fat, hairy, balding, scars and all, just love you. Begin to love the inside and out. You are totally awesome.
