The Beauty of Fall

Katherine Kinlin
What is your personal favorite about the fall? The changing leaves? Crisp air? Children getting off the school bus in the afternoon? Many shiver at the very thought of summer ending, but there are many ways to embrace the romantic changing season of fall.

It isn't unusual for local towns to host fun events such as autumn related fairs. One of my favorite fairs is the Cranberry Festival that takes place in Chatsworth, New Jersey. Surely, there are other fairs all over that are celebrating the delicious delights of fall! Apple fests, pumpkin fests, cranberries, all filled with home made food, live music, and local entertainment.

Farms are usually hosting special events for the entire family to enjoy. Apple picking and pumpkin picking are the most popular now, especially with Halloween coming closer. Some of these farms also have hay rides and corn mazes which can offer plenty of fun for the younger ones. There are plenty of sites online that list recipes that everyone can help out on. Make that apple picking day into another day of cooking. Caramel apples, candy apples, apple pies with cinnamon, or apple tarts. Healthy as well!

A favorite thing of mine is to make caramel apples. A simple visit to the food store to get caramel candies, granny smith apples, and sticks. If you melt the caramel in a pot at a low temperature, you can dip the apples in it and make your very own caramel apples. So delicious and my absolute favorite.

There are many other comfort foods in the fall that make mouths water and make that homely smell. Chicken soup, classic pumpkin pie, muffins filled with apples, cinnamon, or something else that you can think of. Get creative. Embrace the fall with your own ideas, which is what makes the fall so special.
