The Beauty of Ordinary

Dr. Jamie Yvette
The beauty of ordinary;
so easy to ignore
as we search for the extraordinary
and hunger for more.

Yet an ordinary sunset
still illuminates the sky
with hues that warm the heart
and captivate our eyes.

And an ordinary smile
can still brighten up our day
more so than any eloquent words
a brilliant mind could think to say.

An ordinary touch
can soothe an aching heart
and bring comfort to the soul
more than a work of art.

An ordinary love
can last throughout the years
grow stronger with each test
and proudly persevere.

An ordinary life
can be inspiring to one
and leave a legacy of hope
for better things to come.

An ordinary morning
can become an extraordinary day
when viewed through eyes of gratitude
for each blessing along the way.

Although I love the brilliance which can be found in the extraordinary, I find more personal peace and meaning in the ordinary. Listening to the rhyhm of the ocean, sipping a cup of coffee, listening to birds singing in the morning, feeling the sun upon my skin...nice to have the balance. Very perceptive Jamie:)

Great poem. Sometimes we miss the beauty of something ordinary by desiring to change it before discovering it's natural beauty. Beautiful pic.

Thanks Saikat! Coming from one who regularly writes poetry from the heart, this means a lot.

Thank you all for your wonderful comments. Mike, somehow I missed the info on your gap; did you ever tell us that before? I must admit that your smile lights up the room every time I click on your CP profile here at home. I am sure there is rarely a dull moment at your house :)

You had to work really hard on this one, I think,, because whenever a verse flows so smoothly, no breaks or stop signs, that takes a lot of attention. I really agree with the smile part. In t he place I work now there is a lady wo , oops, a lady who smiles like that. It is something you notice. I try to smile a lot of time even though I have gap teeth!
