The Bee Hive has decided not to apply for organic status because that would involve a lot of government paperwork if they did that. They sell raw, local honey in many sizes in assorted containers as well. If you would like to sample some various kinds of honey, it is there for the taking.
As the name implies, it is a place where pure honey is sold. Not only just plain honey, but raspberry, blackberry/raspberry, clover along with several others too. Sold in pints, quarts and half pints so you can easily carry off two or three for you to enjoy at home for yourself or as a gift for a special person.
The prices vary from $6.45 for a pint and $12 for a quart. The honey is in glass canning jars, so the container can be reused. Glass is an excellent storage place for the honey. It will not take on any of the smells of plastic keeping it fresh for a long time.
It is said that honey has been discovered in Egyptian tombs after several hundred years without it spoiling. Now, we don't want to taste that honey to prove that is factual, but honey does have a very long shelf life. The Bee Hive prides itself in quality, local, fresh honey. The bee keepers do not allow any spraying around the hives, so no pesticides will be found in their honey that is sold at the Bee Hive.
The Bee Hive not only sells honey, but also soaps, lip balm, candies and other products all made with honey. The well run shop has local walnuts, pecans and hazelnuts in season from local growers. The vacuum packed trail mix, dried cherries, dates and other fruits can tempt the campers or hikers alike. Children of all ages will be happy to see that the Bee Hive has not forgotten them by carrying an assortment of stuffed animals, back packs and many more surprises just for the interested shopper.
If you are a person watching your baking ingredients, honey from the Bee Hive,is a staple you will certainly want to stock up on while you are there. Take some free recipes that are printed out for your convenience. These recipes use honey in place of other sweeteners, making them an interest for health conscious people .
After many trips to the Bee Hive, I might just see you there when you plan your visit to Reedsport, Oregon.
The Bee Hive has determined to close their doors and move to Idaho beginning 2/2011.
