Taco Bell just recently began offering the Beefy 5-Layer Burrito in the past couple months in various markets. It is a rather simple idea and very similar to their burrito supreme. The main difference is that they do not put lettuce and tomato on the new offering and they use nacho cheese sauce and a little bit of shredded cheese. It is made with a burrito sized tortilla, with beef, refried beans, sour cream, and nacho cheese sauce. It is very rare that it will look as pretty as the pictures, but it is supposed to be made in layers and then rolled up. Since it is all going to the same place I will not hold this against them.
I actually tried the Beefy 5-Layer Burrito today for lunch. I was a big fan of the cheesy double beef burrito, but much to my chagrin they moved that up in price to $1.19 at most stores. The Beefy 5-Layer Burrito is offered at the promotional price of $.89 cents and is a very good value for that price. I would say two of these would satisfy the average hungry man as much as a typical value meal from McDonald's, Burger King, and similar establishments. It is not ultra messy, but considering how lazy some people can be I would recommend re-rolling it yourself to insure you don't get it all over.
Like most fast food this is not the healthiest food in the world. One benefit to eating it though is typically people do not order sides with it like the fries you would order with a double cheeseburger. The nutrition profile is as follows. Each burrito has 550 calories, 22 grams of fat including 8 saturated and a half gram Trans fat. The carbohydrate count is 69 (I won't go there) and the protein content is 20 grams. With this is really not the idea food, but it does taste good and if you have a couple dollars for lunch could be the way to go. I actually think the Cheesy Double Beef Burrito was a bit healthier, but just barely. I am waiting for a good chicken version for the same price that cuts the fat down and boosts the protein content. Overall if you like Taco Bell and this type of food it taste great and will not pick your pocket. I would advise eating this one in moderation though.
