When I was first invited to play Farm Town, I thought my friends were crazy. Many months, and many levels later, I'm a confirmed Farm Town addict! This is a wildly crazy, fun, PG game that you or anyone in your family can play and will love. Whether you're brand new to Farm Town, or still trying to figure out the many options offered, this Beginners Guide to Farm Town will cover the basics that you need to make the game more fun and enjoyable for you!

Farm Town Guide Basics: Overall Goal of Farm Town

There are two main goals in the game, Farm Town. One is to amass coins so that you can buy things for your farm and the other is to gain experience points (XPs) so that you can move up to a higher level. You need the Farm Town coins to buy items such as seeds, buildings, animals and land, and as you gain levels, you can buy more items to make your farm your very own!

Unlike other games where you are pitted against your opponent, when playing Farm Town it's to your advantage to have friends! Having friends will make growing your farm easier, both in size and money.

The Beginners Guide to Farm Town: Your First Farm

When you first play Farm Town, your farm will be small and you'll only be able to buy a few crops. If your friends play Farm Town, add them as friends right away!

The Beginners Guide - Your First Farm Town Farm: Planting Crops

Planting crops is one of the ways that you can gain both experience points (XPs) and Farm Town coins. The concept is simple - pay money to buy seeds, plant a crop, and harvest it and sell it for Farm Town coins.

For the new farmer, don't worry about the cost of plowing your fields. It's a cost that all farmers bear.

Pay attention to the time frame when your crops are ready to harvest. Some crops can be harvested in 4 hours, and others take 2 or 3 days. Crops go bad if they're not harvested. It takes a crop the same amount of time to go bad as it did for them to be ready to harvest. That is, when you plant grapes, they'll be ready to harvest in 4 hours. If they're not harvested within 4 hours, they'll go bad and you won't get any money for them.

The Beginners Guide - Your First Farm Town Farm: Make the Most Money from Your Harvest

If I plant grapes, it will cost me money to plant them, and I'll make money when I harvest them. But, to up the ante and make the game more fun, Farm Town will pay me more money if I don't harvest my own grapes - I'll make the most money by hiring another Farm Town farmer to harvest them for me!

Using grapes as an example, it costs 20 Farm Town coins to plant grapes. If I harvest them and sell them right away, I'll get paid 50 Farm Town coins. Not a bad return. If I harvest them and select "harvest and sell later," those same grapes will pay me 56 Farm Town coins.

When I hire another farmer to harvest my grapes, we both win! That farmer will be paid 11 Farm Town coins for every square of grapes that they harvest for me, and I will be paid 67 coins for every square of grapes that are harvested!

The same concept applies to each and every crop that you plant. You'll find other Farm Town farmers eager to work for you at the Market Place. Look for the icon that says "Map" in the lower right hand of your screen. Click on it to get a link to the Market Place.

The Beginners Guide - Your First Farm Town Farm: The Best Way to Get Coins

You've begun your farm, you've planted your crops. You're waiting for them to be ready to harvest. So now what? The next step is to make money yourself! Harvest crops for other farmers.

Go to the Farm Town Market Place where other Farm Town farmers can hire you. Remember, you can get to the Market Place by clicking the icon that says, "Map" in the lower right hand area of the game. A pop-up menu will appear and the Market Place will be one of several options that you can choose from.

The Beginners Guide - Your First Farm Town Farm: The Best Way to Get Experience Points (XPs)

Getting experience points is something that everyone Farm Town farmer is after! You get experience points whenever you plow a field, whether you've plowed your own field or you've plowed the field for another Farm Town farmer. You also gain experience points when you plant your crops.

Right now, all of the crops pay the same experience points so it doesn't look like you gain XPs by planting one crop or another.

The Beginners Guide - Your First Farm Town Farm: Why the Market Place is the Place to Be

The Market Place is the place to be when you're playing Farm Town. You can hire other farmers to work for you (harvesting or plowing - more on plowing in another article) and you can be hired to harvest or plow for other farmers!

When you harvest for other farmers, you're paid based on the value of the crop you're harvesting. Harvest a grape field and you'll be paid 11 Farm Town coins. Harvest a pineapple field for another farmer, and you'll be paid 128 Farm Town coins for each square of that crop harvested.

The Beginners Guide - Your First Farm Town Farm: Build Your Own Farm!

One of the beauties of Farm Town is that it begins at a very basic level and can get complicated (and more fun!) quickly! With this basic guide, you, too can begin building your own Farm Town farm. You'll love it and will soon be coming back for more!

We are so far removed from the aggrarian culture we once were a thriving part of that what seems left is games... nice, but sad too.
