The a Beka Homeschool Program

Brenda Hoffman
Abeka is the best k-8 homeschool curriculum on the market today. This is why a lot of homeschool parents are choosing to use it. There are essentially three options whenever it comes to this curriculum: two different DVD A Beka Academy programs and a more traditional option is also available.

A Beka Academy Choices

As was mentioned earlier, there are two DVD programs offered by the A Beka Academy. Both programs offer teacher led instruction, books and tests with scoring. Parents must enter into a lease agreement whereby they return the DVDs to Abeka after they complete the program.

The first program is available for students who wish to take college prepatory classes. This DVD program utilizes a curriculum that fulfills all the needs of children in grades 9 through 12 who intend to attend college. Upon graduation they receive a diploma, transcript and graduation ceremony.

The second program is for children who are 4-years-old through those who are in grade 12. In this program parents are responsible for keep track of their children's progress, assigning grades and creating lesson plans. Children will not receive a diploma or a transcript upon graduation.

Regardless of which program you choose, your child will receive instruction based upon their grade level. This is as follows:

Children in grades 1 through 6: Bible, English, math, science and history

Children in grades 7 through 12: Bible, English, world history, algebra, biology, chemistry, Spanish, Hebrew, physical science, health, geography, physical education, U.S history, geometry, American government, economics, calculus and electives (keyboarding, speech, home economics, and music)

The A Beka Traditional Homeschool Program

The traditional A Beka homeschool program is for parents who wish to use textbook instruction. Herein you will receive all of the textbooks, worksheets, tests and scoring keys that you need. Test scores are sent to Abeka who will then evaluate the work and provide the child with a report card and transcripts.

Using only the A Beka Textbooks

You can also choose to use only the textbooks and learning materials. Herein you will have more than 800 different textbooks to choose from. It is important to understand that this is not an accredited program, which means that Abeka is not involved in scoring and evaluating students. Instead, parents must take it upon themselves to ensure that their children meet all of the guidelines and requirements set forth by their local school district, as well as the state that they live in.

In Conclusion

A Beka is considered to be the best K-8 homeschool curriculum because of all of the different options that are available. The fact that most of them are overseen by A Beka also makes this homeschool curriculum easy for parents to use.
