OK, fine. With that settled what would this true African American be able to do as President of the United States of America. Barack Obama at this point in America's history is inheriting an economy that has not yet reached rock bottom. He has also inherited two wars, and an American status beyond the borders of the United States that has been severely sullied.
The problems that America now sees itself in did not just come about during the eight-year reign of King George W. Bush, and the control of the Congress by the far right wing of his political party, no, these problems had been brewing for quite some time, even before the Clinton Administration.
The economic and financial problems are due in large part to ideologies of political parties, and the followers behind each.
Republican ideology believes in Capitalism with no social aspects to that ideology at all. Republicans and conservatives in the Democratic Party believe that social programs are nothing but Socialism, and Socialism is bad because it is next to Communism, and should have no links to pure capitalism.
Capitalism in the view of right wing conservatives better operates with minimal regulation, and that every body should be able to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps. That is if they have bootstraps, and if they do not then too bad, there will be no social programs because Capitalism is about survival of the fittest.
Democrats and Progressives for the most part believe there should be social programs to help people when they are down. Recognizing that not everyone has those bootstraps to pull him or herself up with, Democrats recognize that people, citizens of the United States of America from time to time, need government assistance.
Democrats and Progressives believe that that is a necessary role of governments to give help or assistance when all else fails a citizen. Democrats and Progressives also believe that financial and economic markets need government regulation so that neither runs wild and out of control.
The contrast between Republicans, and Democrats and Progressives is very stark. This being true, we the people have seen how ugly Republicans can get to push their capitalistic agendas. Democrats and Progressives are just now learning how to fight, no holds barred, and still they are not very good at fighting back.
So, what is President Elect Barack Obama to do as President of the United States in his efforts to bring the United States out of what will come to be a deep financial and economic depression?
This is going to be short and to the point because I want to expand on the roles of political parties, and individual citizens. It will take many pages to explain beliefs behind Capitalism and those who want Capitalism without social programs.
In addition, it will take many pages to explain why Democrats and Progressives are not in favor of Socialism but are in favor of governmental assistance, and why they believe that capitalism and social assistance can live together, just as they have been doing.
Make a point to remember to visit my Associated Content Page between now and the end of January 2009. I promise you will read material that will hit you straight between the eyes. The condition that the United States finds itself in has several factors, and each will be written about. These factors are inescapable, so keep tuned in. Hard Times to Deal with Will be Here.
