So after much research and saving, I decided to get a Fender Stratocaster package which came with the guitar, a small amplifier and tons of other accessories like a battery operated tuner and a strap. Since electric guitars are much more expensive, I figured this would be a good starter guitar and later I could buy a better guitar or a big amplifier and possibly pedals.
I found, however, that I don't like the electric guitar as much as I like the acoustic. I just appreciate the clean simple sounds of an acoustic. Even when there is no distortion on an electric, it doesn't sound as beautiful to me. What can I say? I prefer electric guitar in what I listen to, but when it comes to playing it myself, it's all about the good old acoustic.
I realized that I had made an excellent decision in buying the all in one package, maybe even better than I had originally thought, because it was so much cheaper in the long run. If I had bought a more expensive guitar that didn't come with everything else, I would have had to spend money on all the other things it needs. The electric guitar is not just a guitar. It's part of an elaborate set. You need cords and an amp. This along with all the little accessories ends up adding up. That would have ended up costing me quite a bit and in the end I still barely would have used it.
So, for a beginner, I think the all-in-one package is the way to go. If you're just experimenting with music and you're not sure of what you like and don't like, go for the all inclusive package. If you end up really taking to it, you can even sell it so you can buy a better guitar and equipment. In the meantime, you can get used to an electric with a starter kit. It brings things you didn't even know you needed. It works as a good gift as well. If you want to get a guitar for a friend or your child, you should go for the package that brings it all.
