The Benefits of Being a Freelance Writer

Joey Liam
I am a freelance writer. I work primarily at home but my computer and the Internet also take me to places that provide me inspiration for my writing. There are countless benefits to gain from being a freelance writer but the most important of them all, at least for me, is the freedom to write about the things I love to do and the subjects that I appreciate the most. While it is true that we take on assignments from different sources and they set the requisites for those writing duties, we still have the freedom as freelance writers to pick which ones suit our writing style. We should not be forced to write about real estate if we are elementary teachers, or scribe about golf when our favorite sports are basketball and boxing. Now let us look at the other benefits we enjoy as freelance writers.

Opportunities

I write for at least three fantastic websites regularly and I am actually signing up with a few more. This will give me more access to various topics and different writing genre. Myriad of writing opportunities abound online and we just have to look for them. I introduced this idea to some of my colleagues and they absolutely love it. In fact, we share with each other where to find good writing assignments and we help each other in producing the best articles for our designated clients. My recommendation is sign up with at least three writing websites so you can maximize your selection for writing assignments. The more assignments you have access to, the easier it is for you to pick the best topics to write about.

Home Office

I sometimes go to the library to perform research on the subjects I write about but most of my time is spent at my home office. If you do not have an extra room in your house to convert into a home office, then a quiet place will do. It can be right at the comfort of your bedroom or at a little corner in your living room. This is another thing that I truly appreciate from being a freelance writer: the freedom to choose where to write my assignments. I am not confined in a little cubicle just like a data entry operator or a call center representative. I just love the independence of being a writer. It makes my life and my outlook in life better every day.

Tax Deductibles

Since I get paid for my services as a freelance writer, my business partners are duty-bound to report my earnings to the IRS. This is actually beneficial for me because I can now claim majority of my business expenses for this tax season. Some of the things you can include for tax reimbursements are: Internet connection, computer upgrades, writing supplies, and cellular phone service. All of these elements are vital in keeping your writing business operational throughout the year so it's only just to get them deducted from your tax liabilities.

There are many other benefits to enjoy as a freelance writer but I leave those for you to discover. I hope that all of us will find the joy of rediscovering ourselves by becoming a writer. Let us write about our dreams and help other people to reach theirs by giving them inspiration and advice to execute their plans. Writing is a joyful experience and a beautiful journey to experience. Go ahead, grab your pen or turn on your computer-let's explore the world of our imagination together and transform our thoughts into beautiful literature for others to peruse and cherish.

Very nicely said, Joey. I have started when I could afford to, but writing was always a passion for me. I really enjoy the interaction and hopefully some rewards will happen! I am not a US resident to get paid in this site, but that does not bother me much now! Internet is a blessing! siva

Good for you, Susan! I know you can know do it. I agree with you on the hourly pay as I had contracts like that in the past. :)

Go Joey! Hope you get much enjoyment and success from your writing. I'm chasing a technical writing contract at the moment - not good in this financial climate. Should hear yes or no either today or early next week. The good thing about contracts are they pay by the hour - lol.

It’s always a privilege to get a bravo zulu or a pat in the back from you, Jack. Your writings are an inspiration to me as well. Thank you so much.
