The Benefits and Disadvantages of Living with Your Parents

MrAirsoft
More and more people nowadays are moving back in with their parents after college. One of the reasons for this is because after college, you are completely independent, and some people are not ready for that. Also, the comfort of living with others that you know and love is very attractive. There are several reasons why people choose to live with their parents for an extended period of time beyond childhood, and of course there are disadvantages to the situation as well.

Parents rarely charge their kids to live with them, and therefore this allows the offspring to save a lot of money on housing, utilities, and other things of that sort. There is also free food, and usually laundry is taken care of as well. You also get the familiarity of a place you have lived basically your entire life. In fact, the house your parents own is probably better than any place that would be rented or bought yourself. While some may see this as a disadvantage, you get to be close to your parents (who are probably near retired by now), and that is precious time you get to have before the respective kicking of the buckets. Besides comfort, a large reason for living with your parents is saving money. As stated, you will conserve a lot by not having to pay for a wide variety of things, and if you have a good job, your savings will skyrocket and moving out into a nice apartment will be a breeze.

Surprisingly, the disadvantages of living with your parents are shadowed by the benefits, yet still, there are disadvantages. Friends, for example, may make fun of you for living with your parents (unless one or more of them do the same). Living with your parents, depending on their nature, will also somewhat restrict your freedom. You may not be able to stay out incredibly late or be as loud as you want (not that you should ever do any of those things to an extent that it becomes a problem). Also, the living situation may become irritating or frustrating for a number of reasons, such as your parents being overbearing. You may feel uncomfortable or stressed living with your parents at that age, which can be a big problem. There may be additional problems depending on the child-parent relationship, and those can get very specific. However, generally, living with your parents for a little while (after college) can, in cases, be a wise decision.

An excellent article. A bit too short for my tastes, I would have liked to see you go more into the subject. Hope you check out some of my articles as well.
