The Benefits of Encouraging Your Child to Read at an Early Age

There are so many things we can give our children. We offer them our love and affection everyday. We make sure they have food and clothing and everything they need. There is so much more we can instill in our children by simply encouraging it. If you encourage your child to read at an early age, this will benefit him for his entire lifetime. There are so many things that reading will give to your child.

When a child reads, their imagination is given the freedom to run wild. Their minds are stimulated a lot more than if they were watching television. Instead of watching a television show that provides everything for your child, leaving nothing left to their imagination, a book forces the child's mind to create its own picture of what the story is portraying. Each child will put a different face on each and every character or scene that they read about. This stimulates their minds to pursue bigger and better things later down the road.

Not only does reading enhance your child's imagination, but it also broadens their knowledge of the world around them. There are so many different educational books that will keep your child's attention for hours. Even teachers have noticed that when they have students in their classrooms that read a lot, they are far more likely to excel in other areas of learning. Many of life's lessons can be taught at a much earlier age than you might imagine when it is put in the form of a book. Children can learn about issues as simple as sharing to more difficult issues such as disorders.

When you allow your child to read, give him choices and let him pick what interests him. If your child favors one subject over the other, it is allowing his independent nature show through by him choosing what he would like to read. Books don't always have to be educational to be beneficial. Often times, a child simply reads to be entertained, which I'm sure most parents would agree is much better than spending hours in front of a television.

No matter what your child chooses to read, he is sure to benefit in many noticeable ways. Let your child's imagination stretch and learn. Even if your child is not quite old enough to read on their own, you can start reading to them at an even earlier age. There are interactive books available for shapes, colors, letters and much more. Allowing your child to exercise his mind will help him stay sharp and develop into a very well rounded individual.
