The Benefits of Family Camping

Angel Sharum
My family and I recently did an overnight camping trip. While it wasn't a long stay by any means, it sure did us a lot of good. There is nothing better than communing with nature to put things in perspective and show you what is important. Camping has much to offer that all families can benefit from.

First Benefit of Camping for Families:

Fresh air and the sounds of nature do a body good! Waking up with a nice cool breeze in the morning is a great way to start the day. It helps you focus and wakens the senses to your surroundings. You might see teenagers that haven't smiled in weeks crack a grin when the birds start singing and the sun peeks through the clouds. Who could be grumpy with Mother Nature offering such a nice, "Good morning"? Being in nature where all the hustle and bustle is kept down is a great way to relieve stress and help a family unwind.

Second Benefit of Camping for Families:

Downtime from all the electronic gadgets we think we can't live without is a definite benefit camping offers families. Not only does it give our eyes and fingers a break, but leaving the electronics at home offers more time for families to reconnect the old fashioned way. My husband, son and I sat at the picnic table, played games, and talked quite a bit while on our little camping trip. It was nice for us all to be on the same page, doing something together and having fun. Take this time to catch up with each other if you've gotten behind on the comings and goings of each other's lives.

Third Benefit of Camping for Families:

Camping allows parents to teach children things they wouldn't otherwise have an opportunity to. It is always great when a dad can teach his son survival tips and see the admiration in his eyes, or a mom show her daughter women can handle themselves in the woods just as good as men can. It's always good for our children to see we are accomplished people. It helps them to believe we really do know what we're talking about when we give them advice.

Fourth Benefit of Camping for Families:

Children can actually see what they are protecting by practicing green living when parents take them camping. They can enjoy the clean air and water, along with watching forest animals make use of nature the way it was intended. It helps children to see tangible evidence of stuff. Actually seeing what will be impacted by pollution: the woods, lakes and campground, will help them feel more inclined to do their part for the environment.

Fifth Benefit of Camping for Families:

Having fun is the most important benefit of camping for families! Swimming, hiking, roasting marshmallows over the campfire and fishing are all activities that make camping enjoyable. Families that have fun together tend to get along better, so this is a definite plus to any camping trip.

If your family is stressed, overworked and not connecting like you want, go camping! Pack up the bags and kids and head into the woods. You and your family will have fun, relax and get to know each other all over again while enjoying Mother Nature's playground.

So true, although I don't like camping so often or quite so much, but it's great for families and healthy with many benefits. Great piece!

I was never big on camping, but many in my family are! My grandson just went on his first camping trip to Upstate New York and he absolutely loved it! It is still one of the best things going!

We camped a lot when the kids were little. We even camped in the Alps overlooking the real Cinderella castle. After that we figure we'd never be able to top it.
