The most common place to find a homeschool group to join is at Yahoo. On the Yahoo homepage, "groups" is listed on the side bar. Click on "groups", to access the Yahoo groups homepage. There, type "homeschool" into the search bar and it will show relevant groups.
Type "homeschool" into the search box and 6,172 results will appear. This is how popular homeschool groups are. They are popular for good reason, because they benefit homeschool families greatly.
First, do a smaller search and type in "homeschool" and the state that you live in. That will connect you to homeschoolers who live close to you. It will be easier to exchange books or plan field trips with homeschoolers near you, when you live within driving distance of one another. For example, I live in NJ which is three hours long from top to bottom; therefore, I could plan a field trip with anyone in my state.
Second, do another small search and type in "homeschool curriculum." This will take you to a specific group which lists new and used homeschool curriculum for sale or trade. It also allows it's members to list items needed. If someone has what you need, then they can contact you. This is a great way to save money on your child's books.
Third, receive instant updates when there is a new post, unless you choose the option of receiving your emails in one daily amount. You can quickly see new projects that are being posted or new books that are being offered for sale. You will also learn of any new homeschooling resources that are available in a timely fashion.
Fourth, homeschool groups post a list of valuable links. These links are excellent resources that you can use to help educate your children. There are links to free printables, free educational games, free lesson plans, and much more. This list alone could save you a lot of time researching.
Finally, homeschool groups are great for meeting other homeschooling parents. You can find some excellent friends as well as possible pen-pal's for your child. If you find some homeschooling families in your state, then you may even be able to meet them.
