Reading to a child is fun. It opens doors to literature. By reading to your child, you can cultivate love and interest for books. Research has found that a child who has been exposed to books at a young age tend to converse fluently in the school. The child is able to pay good attention and concentrate at a fairly good extent. He is able to listen and imagine better. Reading regularly induces a high degree of understanding and learning in the child. Reading aloud thus helps your child to grasp the skill of reading faster and to get familiar with the language and the vocabulary. The child develops a good speech and is able to pronounce better. Reading is thus the cheapest and easiest way to pave your child's journey into success, develop a passion for reading and build his self esteem.
Reading to your kids sets in a sense of intimacy and well-being. Books teach the child about relationships, situations, personalities and to differentiate between the good and the bad. Your child learns about colors, shapes, numbers, alphabets, planes, rockets, outer space, marine life and so forth.
Remember your child imitates your behavior. So let him see you read books. Join a library that has a good selection of books. Allow him to decide on what book to read. Try to read to your child at the same time of day. Let the experience be pleasurable. If he insist on reading a particular book and wants you to read it repeatedly, do not discourage it, however also get him into reading a variety of books. Teach him good manners and habits through books. Teach him to respect books and maintain them in good conditions. Carry them along on long trips and journeys. Take advantage of every single book he wishes you to read, as it will bring about opportunities to connect, to explore, convey information, to ask questions, to bond and to just talk and have fun.
