Now the next question is that how do you start learning about other country's culture and history? Well it's easy. Make new friends and you can celebrate their festivals and other events with them. This will give you a great opportunity to learn about the culture and traditions of the foreign country. You can even attend some cultural events. There are some international students' organizations who organize such cultural programs for foreign students. You should try to attend it once in a while. Once you know about other's culture, you will start respecting it. You will definitely develop a different point of view. All this will eventually turn you into a good global citizen.
When you live in a foreign country, you start viewing things differently. Your home country may have a different point of view on a particular subject than the country where you are now living in. now how can you get to know the point of views of both the countries? Simple, start readings magazines and newspapers. The newspapers represent what the country thinks about a particular topic. This way you can know two different points of views and you can thus choose the one which you think is correct. In case you are not able to read the newspapers regularly, you can get yourself enrolled into a debate club. You can share your thoughts and ideas with the fellow members there. This way you will develop a broad outlook.
Studying in a foreign country can become a lot easier if you start doing group studies. This helps you to adjust in the new environment. When you study in a group, you can share your views, thoughts with your friends. You'll get to know more about them and their culture and this will benefit you in the long run.
When you land up in a foreign country, you need to develop connections. However it is not very easy as there are various obstacles. You can't make connections if you are shy. Language barrier is another thing. You have to take the initiative here. Go and meet the local people, greet them with a smile and you will definitely be able to make lifelong friends. Another way of connecting with the local people is by joining some groups like bands, clubs and coir. This gives you ample time to interact with the local people. You will meet daily, spend time together and in the process become good friends.
There are many students who just love the idea of studying abroad because of their travel interests. Well, traveling is definitely fun but only when done in limits. Don't travel at the cost of ignoring your studies. You can plan a vacation once every month or you can even go out on weekends. If you want to travel free of cost, join the varsity athlete team. This way you can travel all over the United States and that too for free.
Studying abroad is definitely fun. You should only adapt those things which will benefit you in the future. Make the most out of this golden opportunity.
