The Benefits of Studying and Being Open Minded About Religion

Steven Limbaugh
Learning different types of world religions has had a positive influence on my perspective regarding religions and individual beliefs. I now have a great deal of respect for other religions that are not of the faith I was raised to follow. I realize there are many supplementary traditions that can guide one to live a happier, healthier life without the worry and close mindedness that only one religion is correct and more profound than all the rest.

I believe is it extremely important for one to learn about other people's beliefs and attitudes so society can effectively coincide without chaos and further negativity. By having a basic knowledge and understanding of the many different varieties of individual beliefs that exist within our country, society will be more capable of avoiding a degree of divergence; therefore less people will be offended due to ignorance. Educating ourselves on religion diversity will also alleviate certain types of criminal offences that are committed on a regular basis such as hate crimes.

The information I have learned over the last nine weeks will broaden the way I perceive individuals and will allow me to be less judgmental. In the event I was to become a law enforcement officer, I would be able to apply my newly learned knowledge to avoid any type of unfairness one may believe he or she would encounter by a law enforcement officer. In addition, I will use the facts and data that I have been presented to me throughout my chapters to educate individuals and even correct others who may have received information that is not accurate. The information I have learned can and will be used in a positive manner to help better my life and others if possible.
