While you may be able to learn without taking guitar lessons, it's usually at a much slower pace. Having a good guitar teacher will not only allow you to learn faster, but you will be more confident knowing you have someone there to answer your questions. And you will definitely have questions. Experienced guitar teachers have techniques to help you with your rhythm and overall playing ability. Most guitar teachers start off showing you the major cords and scales and depending on your ability, branch out from there.
As mentioned above, having a teacher gives you someone to interact with and ask questions to. The teacher can demonstrate what is trying to be taught in order to make it clearer. Choosing a guitar teacher who listens to you is very important. If you tell the teacher you like pop music, the teacher should show you how to play songs thus related, not nudge you down the blues path. Time for a quick change of teacher if that happens.
You do have to pay for guitar lessons, but it doesn't have to cost a fortune. There are quite a few freelance teachers out there. Many offer the option of coming to your home. You can inquire at music stores as to whether they know of any good guitar teachers. And even though you will be paying more for guitar lessons, it will probably be worthwhile simply because trying to learn on your own can sometimes be very frustrating and take quite a bit longer to master.

Post a Commentpersonally i think that taking guitar lessons at a beginning stage will stunt a persons creativity when learning how to play the guitar. i think the best way to learn is to pick up a guitar and just start learning. a little bit of general education in chords and notes is a great place to start. but if you teach someone all the rules of something they dont even know how to do yet, then you have a booksmart guitar genius who doesnt even know how to play guitar. i think that more knowledge should be learned about the rules of theory and scales once a person obtains the ability to play on their own.
