The benefits of using a menstrual cup are nearly endless, but here are a few of my favorites.
1. Less changing. The menstrual cup only needs to be emptied 1-4 times a day depending on how heavy your flow is. This is so much more convenient than running to the bathroom every couple hours to change a tampon or pad. Less changing also means you can go out without needing to change messy feminine products in public.
2. Easier to carry. A single menstrual cup is all you need for your monthly cycle. Instead of carrying around a half dozen pads or tampons in your purse, you have everything you need on your body. This also means that no one needs to know when it's your time of the month, which is a little extra privacy that I greatly enjoy.
3. Comfort. Unlike wet pads or leaky tampons, the menstrual cup is comfortable and easy to use. You don't have to worry about leaks or sitting on menstrual fluid all day. The fluid is kept away from the body which is healthier and much more comfortable.
4. It's completely green. My menstrual cup is made from recycled gum rubber. In addition, using a menstrual cup prevents dozens of pads and tampons from going to landfills each month. Using a menstrual cup is one of the biggest ways a woman can go green.
5. Safety. There is virtually no risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome with the menstrual cup. In addition, tampons also contain bleach which enters your body through the vagina. Menstrual fluid being held against the body in either a pad or tampon is unhealthy because it promotes the growth of bacteria.
