* Flexibility. When you work from home, you have the ability to adjust your schedule and your work hours so that you can participate in other activities when it is most convenient. For example, you have the flexibility to chaperone a child's field trip or to watch a matinee movie. While you will, generally, still need to make up for that time later on, being able to shift your work hours around lets you more fully enjoy those other activities.
* Comfort. One of the most significant advantages of working from home has to be that your entire work environment, from your chair to your desk to the lighting, is under your control. You don't have to work from a cubicle in an office that is always too cold; you can work in your home office or even at your kitchen table. In many cases, if you don't have children in the house, you can even work somewhere else, such as a local coffee shop.
* Self-Supervision. Whether you work from home for an employer or whether you run a business working at home, you don't have a boss breathing down your neck or looking over your shoulder. If you want to play a game of FreeCell once an hour, you can. There is no risk that the CEO will wander past your office and wonder why you are playing a game. You need to be disciplined enough to complete your work, of course, but you can do so without the constant fear of a boss watching you.
* Self-Satisfaction. When you work from home, your success rises and falls on the things that you do. When you do well, whether that is completing a project for your company or whether it is making a big client happy, you gain a sense of self-satisfaction and self-worth that you often don't get when working in another setting.
* Saving Money. While it is true that you will need to put out some money for expenses related to working from home, in the long run it will save you money. You won't be eating lunch out every day. You won't have to buy soda pop from a vending machine. You don't have to pay for parking or gasoline. You will have less wear and tear on your vehicle because your commute consists of walking to your home office.
As you can see, working from home has some significant advantages over working in other settings. While working from home isn't for everyone, the advantages make it an attractive option worth considering.
