According to many the Bermuda Triangle is an area just off the coast of Florida that many strange and amazing phenomena have taken place, however the exact location of the triangle can be disputed. Some even say the formation of the area in which ships disappear and water erupts freakily is not even a triangle at all but rather a square, a trapezoid, a parallelogram, or a variety of other shapes. Popular theory however places the boundaries of the triangle a three specific places on a map. One point in South Florida, one on the small island of Bermuda and one on the island of Puerto Rico.
This area, the fabled Bermuda Triangle has spawned many myths and legends surrounding its waters. Tails of aliens, ghost ships and disappearances are among the most common stories to come from the region. Another common story to come from the area is that of equipment failure, compass disruption, and lost time, but could there be possible explanations for all of these events? Well some events in nature can indeed attribute to these events.
Methane eruptions can be attributed to be a likely cause of many of the disappearances of many of the vessels lost to the waters of the Bermuda Triangle. Underwater methane fields are present in the waters around the Bermuda Triangle and every now and again these fields will release a methane bubble in the form of an explosion. These methane bubbles rise to the surface and dissipate after breeching the waters surface. These Methane eruptions are extremely violent and could be the cause of unexplained ship disappearances in the triangle.
These bubbles of methane gas, if coming up around a ship or large vessel would make the density of the water less, thus making the ship less buoyant then the water. What that means is that the ship would gradually sink into the ocean and once the bubble dissipated the water would rush around the ship causing it to sink instantly. Now the ship is underwater and unable to move, and gets caught up in the Gulf Stream that moves the wreckage miles upon miles off course. After the wreckage is found, if it is ever found, it would appear that the ship sank for no reason because it would most likely be in tact, and is miles off course. Strange indeed to anyone unfamiliar with the methane fields below the surface of the water.
Now what about planes being downed in the area for now apparent reason and people losing their compass bearings? Well the Bermuda Triangle has been known to create its own geomagnetic field. This is not an uncommon event, many places around the globe have varying magnetic fields, like the slanted house in Oregon, or in areas near huge ore deposits, so it does happen. Planes, and ships even, can get lost by false compass readings due to the shifts in the geomagnetic field, throwing them way off course, and with limited fuel supply this is a deadly occurrence.
Now in the case of planes going down mysteriously in the triangle the methane fields below may pose a possible solution to this as well. These huge bubbles of methane breech the surface of the water, and methane gas is dispelled into the air. Methane rises and an invisible cloud of the gas could possible surround an aircraft and cause a malfunction in the planes engine because they need oxygen to maintain flight. Also the plane might become unstable due to the lack of oxygen in the air.
There are still mysteries that are unexplained in the area known as the Bermuda Triangle, sightings of ghost ships, lost time, and the stories and tails of aliens and abductions that take place, but many of the cases we hear about are explainable by the methane fields and the abnormally geomagnetic field surrounding the area. We may one day know all the mysteries that plague this area of our planet, but for now we see the Bermuda Triangle as one of Earths most mysterious and intriguing, as well as dangerous places.
