The Best 1980's Sitcom Mom of All Time

V. McNeil
The 1980's introduced us to many amazing and exciting things. This decade gave us pop culture, brand new dance moves, (e.g., break dancing), funky fashion, (e.g., leg warmers), famous video games, like Pacman and Donkey Kong were born, pouffed, crimped and colored hair were the new trend, The Empire Strikes Back struck $538 million dollars worldwide, according to Wikipedia, and so many more fresh and trendy ideas and events swept this nation. However, from a personal stand point, I remember these particular years being a time that I entered into high school, and was searching for a mentor or popular icon of sorts, that I could look toward to help guide me on who I wanted to be and what I wanted to do with my life. My intense effort to find such a person was fulfilled, when the portrayal of this powerful, courageous, strong willed, intelligent, career oriented woman hit television screens across the country. This dedicated wife and mother that impacted this era in a dynamic way, which cannot be forgotten, is Claire Huxtable from the 1980's sitcom: The Cosby Show.

Mrs. Claire Huxtable is a great inspiration to me in so many different ways, even more, for her role as a mother to her five children. Indeed, she was a career woman, an established attorney, who eventually was promoted to partner of the law firm. Nevertheless, she always managed to attend to the many needs of all of her children. These needs ranged from: fixing Rudy's, her youngest daughter, cuts and bruises, to molding her teen-age daughters into respectful young ladies, all while assisting her son, Theo, on how a lady should be treated. In addition, she always encouraged and supported her oldest daughter, through some of the most difficult challenges in her life, such as motherhood. Mrs. Huxtable was a woman, of a stern and nurturing nature, a trait that earned her great respect from her children, as well as, everyone who came in contact with her.

In conclusion, the 1980s was filled with dramatic changes, great stepping stones, and unforgettable events, especially in the Entertainment Industry. I will always be grateful to this industry for giving me such an amazing role model to imitate my life after. A woman of the 80s, 90s, and many more years to come, Mrs. Claire Huxtable, the best 1980s sitcom mom to ever hit the screen.

She was able to bring home the bacon and fry it up in a pan and she made sure that Mr. Huxtable knew he was her man!! Wow, this article took me back to my hay day. This is very cool. Thank you!
