These Kid's Halloween Costumes Are Cheap, Easy and Scary

R. Elizabeth C. Kitchen
Kids love Halloween. This holiday is exciting for them and it allows them to express their creativity and personality. Many of the kids in my life enjoy the frights and want to be a part of them by wearing a scary Halloween costume. When my brother and I were kids were competed to see who could create the scariest Halloween costume. This article will discuss the scariest Halloween costumes for kids that were created and went trick-or-treating in when we were kids. These five kids Halloween costume articles can be worn by boys or girls.

Top Five Scary Halloween Costumes for Kids: Devil Halloween Costume for Kids

The devil is scary and a Halloween staple. A devil Halloween costume for kids allows them to be scary and creative. For a devil Halloween costume for kids you will need a long, red dress for a girl or a pair of red pants and a red shirt for a boy. Of course, girls can choose to wear the red pants and red shirt as well. You will need a black, plastic pitchfork, a black cape that is silky, black shoes, a pair of devil horns and red and black Halloween face paint. You can also choose to get a pair of lighted devil horns for a little added touch. Allow you child to determine how they want their face paint applied, but apply it for them to be safe. If you do not want to buy all of these items separately you can purchase a pre-made devils Halloween costume for kids and most national chain stores or at a Halloween store.

Top Five Scary Halloween Costumes for Kids: Ghost Halloween Costume for Kids

Ghosts and Halloween go hand in hand so a ghost Halloween costume for kids is always a great idea. A ghost Halloween costume is also very easy and inexpensive to make. All you will need is a white sheet and a pair of scissors. First, put the sheet over your child and cut the bottoms so that it is the right length. Next, cut the eye holes and a hole for their nose. If your kid wants to be extra scary, buy some fake blood and splatter on the sheet.

Top Five Scary Halloween Costumes for Kids: Mummy Halloween Costume for Kids

Mummies have always scared me and your child is likely to love a mummy Halloween costume. To make this costume you will need plenty of white fabric if you are making it yourself. You can also choose to purchase one from a store, but a homemade one looks more authentic and scary. If you do not have extra white sheets and linens around the house you can buy them at thrift stores for very little money. Simply rip up the fabric into a lot of pieces and wrap your child. First wrap their arms and hands (make sure they can still carry their trick-or-treat bag) and then their feet (after their shoes are on) and legs. Next, wrap their core and head (make sure they can see, talk and breath). You can secure the linens with safety pins. Have your child wear an old t-shirt and pair of pants underneath the wrapping so that you can secure the sheets to the clothes so that they do not become unwrapped.

Top Five Scary Halloween Costumes for Kids: Vampire Halloween Costume for Kids

Vampires have always scared me and with the Twilight craze a vampire Halloween costume is perfect for your child. You will need a black and white suit (for boys), a long black dress for girls, a black and red cape that is silky, some white and red face paint, black dress shoes and hair gel. Of course, girls can wear a suit also if they prefer it. I recommend applying the make-up first. Cover their face in the white face paint and use the red face paint to make blood streaks coming from their mouth. You can also use some red lipstick for their lips if they would like. Next, slick their hair back like a vampire using the hair gel to keep it in place. Girls can choose to either put their hair up or keep it down. Now all you have to do it get them dressed.

Top Five Scary Halloween Costumes for Kids: Zombie Halloween Costume for Kids

A zombie Halloween costume for kids is really easy and cheap to make. You will need old clothes, dirt, fake blood, hair gel, scissors, and white, red and black face make-up. Gather the clothes and rip them up a bit and them get them dirty with some dirt and apply plenty of fake blood. Next, mess up your child's hair using the gel to keep it extra messy and apply some fake blood. After they get dressed help them apply the face make-up. Their face can be covered in the white make-up, ring their eyes with the black and use the red to add blood to their face.
