Summer time is upon us, and it's time to grab the kids and take them off on a fun, new adventure. If you do not have any children, then you always have the option to gather some of your good-natured friends and plan a trip together. One destination that almost everyone can enjoy is an amusement park. Most of the parks have rides catering to all ages, sizes and have varying themes that range from animals to comic books. Although there are many great amusement parks, this article is going to give you a look into some of the best amusement parks in the country for you to explore.

Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio

Cedar Point is a legendary stop in the Midwest for children of all ages. The park boasts seventeen roller coasters and over sixty rides, including the infamous "Raptor," which is an inverted coaster that travels a whopping 57 miles per hour. The park also houses the Peanuts Playground, a petting zoo and the Xtreme trampoline. It's family friendly and clean and also the second oldest amusement park in the country.

Universal's Islands of Adventure in Orlando, Florida

Islands of Adventure is known for putting the "theme" in theme park. The theme concept is explored in everything from the rides to the restaurants. You and your kids can explore Jurassic Park, Toon Lagoon, Seuss Landing and many other attractions. The lines can be long, but the park posts the time you will have to wait. There are also three roller coasters to choose from for the adventurous at heart.

Lego Land in Carlsbad, California

If you have smaller children, Lego Land is the place for you. You'll marvel at Miniland, which is an attraction in the park that has well-known structures, such as the White House, constructed out of Legos. Of course, there is an area where your kids can play with Legos if they don't want to ride in them. The park also has three roller coasters among its 50 rides. For older kids, there is a robotics lab, which is sponsored by MIT's Media Laboratory.

Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia

If you are a roller coaster enthusiast, then Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, is the place for you. The park has several "super" coasters, including the world-famous "Griffon" that has a unusual theme: the coaster is modeled after a French village. The park also transports you to other lands such as Germany, Italy or Scotland with their attractions.

Valley Fair in Shakopee, Minnesota

Valley Fair is a great choice if you want a smaller park to attend. The parks holds several roller coasters, including their signature "Wild Thing." You can also cool off during the hotter days of summer in the water park and enjoy the games that will remind you of a small-town carnival. Before you exit the doors, make sure you check out the "Power Tower," which is ride that lets you experience a 250-foot fall. It is definitely not for the faint of heart!
