The Best Archipelago Kayaking Destinations in the World!

Keith Dailey
Kayaking is a pathway to the natural world, as yet untouched by man. Your only companions in such locations are birds, wild animals, and aquatic creatures. And boy, being out on the bio-luminescent seas at night, is an experience that you are going to remember for life!

Here are a few magnificent spots that no avid archipelago kayaker should miss:

(1) Comprising of approximately 800 islands, the Mergui Archipelago (southern part of Burma), offers you lush rain forests. And the Kayak Jungle Rivers will take you deep inside them. You are treated to a vista of magnificent beaches and a superb array of wildlife. Crab-eating monkeys, civet cats, gibbons, wild elephants, wild boar, armadillos, flying foxes, fruit bats, turtles, and monitor lizards--they are all waiting for you! The commonly seen birds are parrots, sea eagles, and horn bills; of course, there are other birds too. And in case you reach Nyaung Weel Island, you can get an education about Moken culture.

(2) Another enchanting place is-Galapagos Islands (Galapagos National Park). Its a combination of wonderfully sunny weather and a teeming wildlife! You can see-Galapagos hawk, sea lions, giant tortoises, iguanas, and the blue-footed booby found along the sea shores, living alongside Galapagos penguins, white sharks, dolphins, Pacific green sea turtle, rays, and whales in the seas. Of course, other forms of aquatic life are there too. We guarantee that you will love the place, considering that there are deserted coves, blue lagoons, white sand beaches, lava channels, and iridescently-turquoise waters!

(3) Serenity and the Sormlands Archipelago go hand in hand! The south of Stockholm in Sweden is both, lush and wild (both, central and outer regions).

(4) If whales are your passion, you need to head towards the Black fish Archipelago in British Columbia. An additional bonus-Stellar sea lions, Humpback whale, Dall's porpoises, Orca whales, Harbour seals, Pacific white-sided dolphins, Harbour porpoises, and Minke whales are also waiting for you!

(5) British Columbia also houses Broughton Archipelago Marine Provincial Park (a group of islands off North Vancouver Island). It can be reached only by a waterway. Your companions include--Cormorants, Harbour porpoises, black bears, raccoon, river otters, sea otters, Harbour seals, Great blue herons, mink, sea orcas or killer whales, sea lions, black-tailed deer, Harlequin ducks, and Bald eagles. The place takes you back to a primitive era, since there are no plans to develop the area yet. Organized tours (agencies) are available for those who do not wish to venture there alone.

(6) Numerous protected, but unexplored islands lie in an Atlantic harbor (Nova Scotia's East Dover area). More than 20,000 years ago, melting ice helped to spread granite boulders over the landscape of the Dover Archipelago, lying between Peggy's Cove and East Dover. You can only go there via your kayak. Some islands are too rocky for you to beach your boat. What you can expect to see are--lobsters, starfish, and mussels. Wildlife includes Bald eagles, Osprey, Blue Herons, and loons. There is even rare plant life to be seen-Pitcher plants, juniper, wild rhododendron, lichens, and rare orchids.
