The most important thing is to get a reliable alarm clock. When your child can get up by himself, this makes things easier on you, the parent. It is better to purchase a radio alarm clock rather than one of those cute talking Pikachu clocks. Pikachu just does not make enough noise to wake up the sound sleeper.
A cell phone with good service is handy. While some people see it as a toy with teenagers, these are useful if your child has to stay after school for an activity. Rather than get a phone with all the extra features, such as texting and email, get a pre-paid cell phone. This teaches your child responsibility where they learn not to waste making unnecessary phone calls.
You need a good lap top or desk top computer with Internet connection. Your child may be writing research papers. The World Wide Web is a good source of information. Having a word processing program such as Microsoft Word is also a Plus.
An E-book reader such as a Palm Tungsten is an excellent gadget to have. Your child can download books from the Internet to this device. Reading is made easier for those who normally do not like to read. They tend to forget that they are actually reading a book when they are holding a Palm.
A graphing calculator is a must for high school students who are taking classes such as Geometry, Trigonometry, Biology and Physics. Most High School math professors require their students to have one.
The Leap Frog Company offers a quantity of gadgets for students of all ages. They have the Leap Pad for those learning to read and the Quantum Pad Learning System for children in Middle School. This company even sells the I-Quest. This system has games that help High School students in Math, History and Science. The products this company has to offer are too many to list. However, they make learning fun.
Finally, there is the Livescribe. This is a computer pen which records your child's teacher as he teaches the class. What a handy device to have! That way if your child misses what his teacher says, he can go back and listen to him on this pen.
True these gadgets may be fun. However, they can also give your child a better chance of having a fruitful school year.
