When visiting the best beaches in the San Francisco Bay Area, don't expect to go jump in and start swimming right away. The water can be extremely cold even during the summer months. Most swimmers and surfers will wear wetsuits to keep them safe from the cold water.
The interesting thing about beaches in the San Francisco Bay Area is the fact that there are beaches on the Pacific Coast, but there are also beaches along the San Francisco Bay.
The beaches along the San Francisco Bay tend to be slightly warmer and usually have decent views of the city. The beaches along the Pacific Coast, however, offer a more scenic look at nature and give you that "ocean feel."
The most crowded beach in the San Francisco Bay Area is usually Baker Beach. Baker Beach offers visitors the opportunity to participate in activities such as volleyball and kite flying.
Baker Beach is located along the San Francisco Bay just beneath the Golden Gate Bridge, offering visitors a view of the bridge that those not visiting the beach will miss out on.
Before you head out to Baker Beach, keep in mind that it is known as the nude beach of the San Francisco Bay Area. While Baker Beach is a nude beach, many people visit the beach fully-clothed to experience all the beach has to offer.
Another one of the best beaches in the San Francisco Bay Area is East Beach. East Beach is also located not far from the Golden Gate Bridge, offering a similar view as Baker Beach but from the other side.
East Beach is a popular beach for families to have picnics and barbeques. The water at East Beach is very shallow and calm, making it a favorite among parents with small children.
Stinson Beach, one of the best beaches in the San Francisco Bay Area, is a short drive away from the city and is definitely worth the trip. The drive to Stinson Beach from San Francisco alone will take you across the Golden Gate Bridge and through Muir Woods.
During the summer, Stinson Beach can be a great place to play in the waves. The water may be cold at first touch, but you will get used to it after a while.
Stinson Beach is a very popular beach for those who like long walks along the beach. The beach is also popular for kite flying as it can supply some powerful winds, especially during Fall and Winter.
The favorite of the best beaches in the San Francisco Bay Area among visitors and locals may be Ocean Beach. Ocean Beach runs along the Pacific Coast and is just outside of the city.
The waters at Ocean Beach are home to many surfers and swimmers, especially during the warmer summer days. Ocean Beach is another favorite for beach walkers and joggers as it is nearly five miles long.
Ocean Beach also has areas for dogs, which allow dog owners to bring their dogs out to the beach to play with other dogs, while enjoying nature themselves.
Whether you are a visitor or a local, any of these beaches would be worth visiting, as they are the best beaches in the San Francisco Bay Area.
