For years, I fought my own battle with my hair. I used chemicals, products, and straightening irons to try to tame my curls. These obsessive straightening routines wreaked havoc on my hair, and on more than one occasion, I found myself shearing off the damaged locks. Finally, I gave up and decided to embrace and cultivate the curls that I was born with. Not only does my husband love my hair now, it is healthier, and it takes much less time for me to get ready in the morning. There are some amazing products that are available that will help you love your curly hair, and these are my personal favorites.
1. Pantene Pro-V Curls shampoo and conditioner. I am one of those women that has to wash her hair each and every day. I love this shampoo and conditioner combo because it ensures that my curls are protected from the elements without the build-up, and that my hair is virtually frizz free from the start.
Tip: Rinse the conditioner from your hair with cool water to provide extra protection against frizz.
2. For those of us that have very kinky curly hair, Pantene Pro-V Style Curls Styling Milk is the next step in getting rid of frizz while loosening curls to make them more flowing and manageable.
Tip: Use this product on towel dried hair, before applying any other hair products or heat. Make sure that you work the styling milk all the way to the ends for maximum frizz reduction.
3. For defined curls, I highly recommend Schwarzkopf got2b Kinky Curling Mousse. This is a texturizing and defining product that is totally without the crunch factor. It leaves your hair looking, (and smelling) great, while still being soft and touchable.
Tip: Use a generous hand-full of the product and scrunch through hair before drying.
4. Every girl with curls needs a blow-dryer with a diffuser attachment. Using a diffuser, as opposed to straight heat from your blow-dryer plays a huge part in the reduction of frizz for those of us with curly hair.
Tip: Flip hair upside down and blow-dry with the diffuser attachment until hair is 75% dry, then scrunch and finger style while allowing hair to air dry the rest of the way.
5. Heat, humidity, and daily activities all play a part in the gradual flattening of your curls as the day goes on. I use TRESemme Flawless Curls Curl Reactivation Mist to restore my style whenever needed.
Tip: Flip hair upside down and apply mist sparingly. Scrunch hair thoroughly to restore bounce and luster to your tired tresses.
I hope these tips and products help you to enjoy the hair that nature gave you!
