Central Lakes Trail- This trail runs from Osakis, Minnesota, to Fergus Falls, Minnesota, 55 miles to the West. On your ride, you can visit Lake Osakis, which includes a public boat launch and may be a perfect spot to stop for a picnic lunch! If you've ever visited the Midwest, you'll also be treated to beautiful views of many farms, and just a few of our more than 10,000 lakes! Stop in Nelson, Minnesota, for a drink or bite to eat! Don't blink, though- you might miss it! Located just on the outskirts of Alexandria, Minnesota. Once you do arrive in Alexandria, you'll have a tough time deciding what to do! We have a statue of Big Ole, the Kensington Runestone, a museum, fairgrounds, and a former train depot that is now a restaurant! Check out more on this beautiful trail at http://centrallakestrail.com/.
Glacial Lakes State Trail- Once again, a great place to visit if you enjoy the lakes of Minnesota! You can even go horseback riding and in-line skating as well here during the summer! Come during the winter and enjoy snowmobiling! Keep your eyes open for deer, butterflies, beautiful plants, and yes- maybe even some rodents. Visit http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_trails/glacial_lakes/index.html for more info.
Lake Le Homme Dieu- Located in Alexandria, this beach is accessible from a paved bicycle path. Bringing the kids? Lifeguards are on duty from noon to 7pm during the summer season. The area also includes restrooms, a parking area, and of course- the beach! Lay out a towel and get a tan while you sip your iced tea! Lake Le Homme Dieu is close to restaurants and just a drive from downtown Alexandria, so if you'd like to make a day out of it, add some sightseeing, shopping, lunch, or maybe an afternoon coffee break with a friend! Learn more at http://www.co.douglas.mn.us/lehommedieu_beach.htm.
So, whether you're looking to get away for a few hours by yourself or share some romantic moments with that special someone on a bike ride, Central Minnesota is a great place to do so! Take your time and make a day out of it- do some sightseeing, exploring, and pack a picnic lunch! You'll love what you see and you'll definitely come back again. Remember to bring your camera- you never know what you'll catch on film here! Happy trails!
