The Best Bollywood Ripoff Films

Bollywood is the India's version of Hollywood. It is based in Mumbai, India. The city used be named Bombay and that's where the "Bo" comes from. The primary language of the films produced in Bollywood is Hindi. The films usually have escapist themes with elaborate song and dance numbers throughout the films. The films themes have changed in recent years from traditional themes of arranged marriage to films about young, glamorous people from the city. Many of these films seem to be familiar stories, maybe even ripoffs of popular American movies.

U, Me Aur Hum, is Bollywood's ripoff version of the Nicholas Sparks film, The Notebook. The story of U, Me Aur Hum starts off with two young people meeting each other on a cruise. They fall in love and get married. One day Piya, the female lead, goes out shopping and suddenly doesn't remember anything about her life. She later gets diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, just like the female lead character in The Notebook. Ajay, the husband loves Piya no matter what and knows that he has to get Piya to love him again. He works through out the film to get Piya to remember the love that they once shared. He succeeds in this and the movie ends with an older Piya and Ajay on a cruise together! The promotional posters are also very similar to the Notebooks. Take a look at both movies' website and see the similarities.

The most blatant Bollywood ripoff of all time would have to be director Karan Johar's 2010 film, My Name is Khan. If you know the storyline of the movie Forest Gump, you are fairly certain to know what happens in My Name is Khan. Khan is slower than most mentally. He makes it to historical events, meets the president, goes on a long cross country journey in order to find himself, gets a beautiful and smart woman to fall in love and marry him. They even have a little boy just like Forest and Jenny in Forest Gump. The makers of this film can argue all they want that it's a different movie but when Khan talks about lessons he has learned in life by starting off the story with "Mama always says" they lose all creditability. Khan is more edgy than Forest Gump. Khan's son is a victim of anti-Muslim attacks. He moves to Georgia, the state and not the country! While in Georgia some of the neighbors believe that he might be a terrorist. While in Georgia, a hurricane that resembles Hurricane Katrina, gives Khan an opportunity to help his neighbors and prove to them that he is a good person wanting a part of the American dream.
